Hello,
I'm not engaged yet but have started to look at dresses. My boyfriend and I are planning to get married in Barbados in a garden setting, early morning. Do you think this dress is suitable for a garden ceremony? It's satin - and I'm wondering if that would look too dressy or keep me too hot.

Also, I'm not sure my boyfriend will be wearing a suit - he hates them and gets very hot in them as well. He would probably prefer a long sleeved white shirt or maybe a vest. So I'm also wondering I would look too 'dressy' next to him.

Not sure how to post pictures so I've copied the link:

(Not sure if the link is working?)

Thanks,

First of all, you should wear what you love and what makes you feel good.

The dress is lovely and could certainly work in a garden setting, I wouldn''t hesitate if I were you. You could certainly go more casual if you wanted to, but it''s completely appropriate.

As long as it makes you feel beautiful, that''s really all that matters!

I think the dress looks great! not too dressy at all

Hey, Sha,

My college roommate was married in the Caribbean a couple of months ago and wore a similar dress. She jokingly called it her "nightgown wedding dress" but it looked really beautiful. The material was lightweight and looked great in the breeze, very romantic.

By the way, I love Barbados! What a fun wedding!

The dress is lovely. I don''t think you''ll be too hot, and I think it''s completely appropriate for a garden wedding. :)

Very nice for a beach or garden wedding. The flowy lines make it work, I think. I would worry a little bit about the satin because it can be HOT!

Thanks for posting the pic RT -- I couldn''t open the link. I love the dress and I think it will look great for a garden wedding. Like RT said, I might worry that because it''s satin, you might be very hot. Other than that though, I think it''s a winner!

Thanks for all your responses, and thanks for posting the photo, rainbow! It's beautiful isn't it?

Yeah, I think the style is okay for a garden wedding but I'm still kind of worried about the satin and feeling hot. HOWEVER - I was also thinking of having a dress made in another style, and that dress would've had a satin lining and chiffon and lace overlay. Wouldn't that be hot as well?

Do you think this posted dress has a lining? satin over satin maybe?

For those of you who are doing garden/outdoor weddings, what kind of material is your dress made from?

NewEngland Beauty - I'm looking forward to getting married in Barbados too. I've been there a couple times before and really like it.( plus there's no real waiting period to get married there). It'll be nice to get away...

Ooooh Barbados! DH and I honeymooned there, and loved it so much...a perfect wedding location!! This is a strange question, but how attached are you to length? On our wedding day it was 93, and we got married outside anyway - and I was absolutely fine, but I think a lot of that had to do with my dress length - it ended half way between my calf and ankle. My dress was pretty traditional (beaded bodice with lace overlay, satin lining and the skirt was chiffon with a decently thick lining) and had I it "chopped" (the seamstress thought I was nuts) but it was the best decision and I don''t regret it for a minute - I was pretty comfortable on our wedding day (my veil was actually what made me feel hot!). If length isn''t a issue, maybe consider a shortening the dress? At your location, will you be in the sun? Is there an ocean breeze? It might depend a lot on how much shade, etc you have. That is a beautiful dress, I think it would be lovely in Barbados!

I think it is lovely, and perfect for a wedding in Barbados!

I, too, am planning a beach wedding, and I''m worried that I might roast in the satin one I just got on ebay...I''m hoping I won''t keel over!

Thanks for your responses. I''m not attached to length at all - in fact, the dress I was going to have made (different style) was going to be just below my knee. I do agree that a shorter length might work better for an outside, caribbean wedding. The Caribbean is naturally breezy but since our wedding location will be a ways from the beach I don''tt think we''ll get much of the seabreezes. Harleigh, I saw your dress and think it''s beautiful. With the breezes I think you''ll be okay.

If you were thinking of having a dress made anyway, why not have THIS one made, but in a lighter silk, which will be MUCH cooler and more breathable. The drape might change a little, but not that much.

Good idea! I didn''t think about that.

Thanks,
