He said it is NOT a reproduction. The workmanship on the ring is not cast, it is 100% hand made (the metal is hammered). He said it is edwardian time period.

The center stone is 1.03 graded SI1 (there was an inclusion on the pavilion I missed, and he ALMOST missed that pushed it from VS. ) He graded it 'orangy brown' on the appraisal.

The rest of the stones measure 1.4cttw (he did exact measurments, no guessing). SI2, H-J color.

5.4g platinum.

He gave it a value of $4500.00 (he doesnt do the inflated appraisals, but the actual cost).

He was very good. He is a GIA GG and appraiser.

So I am happy it is origional, and not a repro, and ultra happy I paid a fraction of its worth.

:appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: I'm so happy for you!! What an awesome find, and I'm happier it's Edwardian, which to me, is a superior period in jewelry making. I think $4500 is ultra conservative and only takes into account maybe the raw materials, and not the premium paid for an Edwardian piece, nor the workmanship. I would estimate it to be at least $6K, but I'm not an appraiser. Congratulations!!!

Congratulations!!!! It is a beautiful ring, and now truly confirmed to be one of a kind.

I thought it was conservative too, but it is just for insurance. I dont plan on selling it. If I planned on selling it I would prolly take it for a 2nd opinion.

I was also expecting 6-7k but thats OK. Lower premium for me. I also asked about the price of materials, and he said you dont appraise antiques like newer jewelry. Newer jewelry is appraised by its materials, older antiques are appraised by the piece is a whole because it is NOT replaceable. *shrug*.

Now, where can I find good agreed value insurance?

Congrats RH! It's a gorgeous piece and I'm happy to see your collection only gets better and better!

Woo hoo! It's a gorgeous ring.

It looks brand new, too! What a find!

Congrats on the great find:)!

Glad to hear your ring is an original from the Edwardian period. It must have been left forgotten in someone's safe deposit box for a long long time. Enjoy wearing your gorgeous ring.

Great buy! I use Jewelers Mutual for insurance. They will let you work with a jeweler of your choice to find a replacement of equal value, but they don't write a check (Chubb was the only company that did that IIRC, but they had a minimum value you had to insure for).

This is great news! Congratulations on a lovely find.

:appl: That's awesome RH! Congrats again! Gorgeous piece you have there! :appl:
