Spent today looking at heated stones, nothing diffused or lattice. I found one in a color I like, although it is a bit smaller than I wanted. I am pretty new to this and something must be wrong with this stone as it is CHEAP. What am I missing?

Multicolour is a great vendor who offers very competitively priced stones; he never raises his prices on older stock stones so you can find a good bargain if you are willing to sift through his multiple pages. The colour on that pad looks very fine. My only hesitation is the large window (area where it appears I can see through the stone down the table). Some people aren''t picky about it but it bothers me to no end. The window is due to cutting the last few facets of the pavilion too shallow in order to retain carat weight.

windowing bothers me quite a bit also......i don''t like being able to look through a stone and see newsprint through it. however, some windows are minimal and i think the effect can further be reduced by how the stone is set: for instance, a total bezel around the entire stone, including the pavillion, so only the crown is free. light doesn''t get to go in and bound around the same way but it does eliminate some of the effect because now looking through the stone only reveals the metal surrounding it. doesn''t remove the window but merely reduces the window effect. i think this doesn''t work as well with stones with large windows.

its all in the eye of the beholder. some are more sensitive to windowing than others. some of us fiind ways to delude ourselves that it isn''t so bad and we can live with it. for others, it is the color of the stone that is the only important thing. there used to be a poster here that loved native cut stones, didn''t care about much other than if the color was excellent. this poster also liked flaws, said they gave a stone personality..... this poster is in the color stone business and knows his stuff and he''s not alone in the world of professional color stone buyers/sellers that feels this way about the stones they keep for themselves.
