Since I had a bit of free time today, I stopped by Tiffany and tried on wedding bands (I don''t have a particular thing for that store, but since FI decided to get my e-ring there, I''m going to hold him to it and have him get my w-band there, too...might as well match, right?

). He got me the classic knife-edge setting, but I''m not at all fond of the matching knife-edge band. I tried on the 2mm and 3mm platinum Lucida bands with it, and both looked nice, but I think I prefer the delicate look of the 2mm. I''m worried, though, that if I ever want to wear the band on its own, without my e-ring, it''s a little too teeny. Also, I''m worried about how a 2mm will wear over time -- does anyone think it will thin too much? I never want to have to change my wedding band, so it''s an important issue for me. And I''d rather go for a more practical 3mm than a slightly nicer-looking 2mm, if that''s the case.

I also want to add a thin 1/2 eternity diamond band to the other side, so 3 rings stacked in total, and I feel like going over ~2mm for each band takes up too much of my finger (I''m not quite as into bling as most ladies on this board, I''m more into the subtle but still elegant look).

On the plus side, the sales assistant said that in the next couple weeks, they''re upgrading their system so customers can enter "wish lists," meaning that I can then just tell FI "Tiff''s knows what I want, go there and ask, and they''ll take care of it" rather than pretending that he''d actually remember what w-band I want. Yay!

Now I just need to figure out which one to choose...any thoughts?

I had a similar issue. I have a 3mm Lucida band. I love it! I wear it with my diamond eternity band that I was married with (the Lucida band was a Xmas present) and I wear it alone for gardening, sailing, sports and working out, cooking, etc. It''s a great all around wband for when you dont want to think about being careful with your rings. On my fingers the 2mm was too thin by itself though I loved it with my ering. With my ering the 3mm is too wide so I dont wear it with the ering ever. That said, you could always get married with two rings, the half eternity and the Lucida 3mm, switch your ering to your right hand for the wedding day, and then use the Lucida band for when you dont want to wear your ering.

Your e-ring is platinum, right, so your wedding band will also be plat? If that''s the case, you don''t have to worry about the 2mm thinning over time. Platinum, unlike gold, doesn''t lose metal. Even when you scratch it, the metal just gets pushed around rather than removed.

Thanks for the replies!

Surfgirl, I didn't dislike the look of the 3mm with my e-ring, I just preferred the 2mm because it's closer to the width of my existing band. I think I'll have to go back and try them again (rats...life is so difficult

) and spend more time looking the band alone, I didn't think to do that today. The 1/2 eternity won't actually be a second wedding band, it will probably be a treat to myself when I (fingers crossed) graduate law school and pass the bar. I really love the look of a plain band, solitaire e-ring, thin diamond band stack. And I'm too impatient to wait for an anniversary (may even be too impatient to wait the 9 months between wedding and bar exam. *slaps wrist* BAD Octavia!).

It's good to have a nice review of the Lucida band, I really did love it and it was very comfy.

Ladyciel, thanks for the reassurance. I thought that was true of platinum, but I wasn't sure, and after seeing the state of my parents' and my grandmother's wedding bands, the thought of a very thin ring made me nervous. My grandma wears hers on a chain since my grandfather passed away, and it's almost worn through in some places (so probably a good thing she doesn't wear it on her finger anymore) and all misshapen. They all have YG rings, though, so I guess I won't need to worry as much.

It was exciting to try on rings, since I've done about all the pre-planning I can do so I'm a bit stuck until we confirm that our tentative date will actually work. Now at least I'm closer to making a real decision about something!

I''ve seen a 4.5mm Lucida band, do they make a 2.5mm? I couldn''t see it on the Tiff website, but I am quite unwell at the moment and feel my brain is made of cotton wool...

The wishlist is a cool idea!

Oooh and I just wanted to add I LOVE your Ering!!!!!!!

Nope, they have 2mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, and 6mm in the plain bands. I didn''t see any other sizes in the store, either, so I think the selection of plain bands on the website is pretty accurate. The Lucida bands with channel-set stones are all at least 4mm, but there are some other channel-set and shared-prong bands that are around 2.6mm.

I have a 3mm Lucida band that I got from Signed Pieces on impulse. I really love it, and wish I could wear it with my ring. I've been trying to sell it on craigslist (avoiding eBay fees)

It just doesn't "go" at all. I bought a $3 stainless steel 2mm band (that actually pretty well matches my plat ering) to try out, and I've ended up wearing it a lot. It looked too thin at first, but I've gotten used to it and it looks "normal" now.

I don't know anything about how it would wear, though.
