Hello there!

Im getting married in May 2010 and am hoping to get married at St Mar''s Cathedral in Sydney but they do not provide a priest. Im not Catholic however, my partner is and does not attend church. We have approached a priest who has adivsed that he is unable to conduct the ceremony at St Mary''s and now we are stuck with what to do. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to a Priest in Sydney who would be willing to to perform the ceremony?

Thanks!

Everything I have ever heard of as far as Catholic ceremonies go. Is, you need to be a member of the Catholic Church to be married there.I am not at all familiar with the St Mar''s Cathedral in Sydney, however I did google it, and it does state on there you can have your own priest. Thats good, I bet though, you are going to have to join a parish to get a preist to marry you there. My experience is they pretty much stick with their own congregations. Than there is the pre marital classes most require. Says on their site they ask for 6 months notice as well.

Good Luck to you, St Mar''s looks beautiful!

Can you search on the internet for someone? It seems disingenuous to join a church you''re not really going to attend, just to get a priest who will marry you. In the US you can find clergy who are flexible ijn different ways. Good luck.

Are his parents part of a parish? Could you approach the parish he received any sacraments at? (e.g. baptised, holy communion)

It will be hard to find someone to marry you outside of their own parish, unless you have a relationship with them and can ask as a favour I think. St Mary''s should have priests that they can recommend though... weird. We were thinking about having a Catholic ceremony at a deconsecrated chapel, and even they had couple of priests that we at least could have rung to ask, not that they would have been a definte yes or anything

The thing is, a church is more than just a pretty building.
