Has anyone purchased the moonstone ring from Turtle Love Co.? I figure it''s a shot in the dark, but I fell in love with it and plan to buy it. My concern is that moonstones I''ve seen before looked less "raw", more translucent and polished in the cobachon shape. Before I buy the ring, I''d like to see what some of you have to say about the quality...

There are cabochon moonstones, carved moonstone and rarely, faceted moonstone. Good to high quality moonstone should be translucent and have a blue sheen that moves around freely, floating at the surface of the stone. You are correct that this one looks quite “raw”.

Sally, Heart of Water, carries much higher quality moonstones.

I like the aesthetics of the ring, the proportion of the stone to the ring, and how it''s set. However, that stone is very low quality, and not something I would wear. Like Chrono said, fine moonstone should have a sheen to it, and be more crystal than that. That stone is also worth very little, maybe around $20, so most of what you''re paying is in the metal I would imagine, if that''s gold. If it''s silver, then it''s worth about as much as the stone.

Whew! Thank you to both of you! I feel like I dodged a bullet - I''m such a gemstone rookie

You''re right, tourmaline_lover, it''s the setting that I like. The moonstone settings I see are typically very cocktail ring-esque, which doesn''t appeal to me. However, the stone is set in sterling silver so, there you go.

I suppose now that I have the idea, I could see about getting something custom made.

Wow..

Very overpriced, especially for the quality of moonstone and for being set in SS.

I just saw the price, and it''s really overpriced. I wouldn''t pay more than $40 for that, and even that''s pushing it for me. I don''t like the stone at all, and it''s in silver for crying out loud. I suppose the artist is charging for his/her artistic ability to put a cloudy stone in a silver mount.
