Hi turtledazzle

I am resetting my ering and am debating a sheldon speyer setting, did a search and yours popped up...the SAME setting!! Thank you so much for posting pics, it is really helpful in the final decision to see it IRL!

I have a few questions, if you don''t mind answering:

-did you get the matching wband? any pics of it with the ering and alone?
-is the diamond set pretty low? I bang around my high set diamond so the reason for the reset is to lower it.
-did you get plat or wg? any input on that, regarding upkeep and how it has worn?

Thank you so much!

Shimmer, what does this new setting look like? I really love the simplicity of your solitaire so this new setting must be beautiful!

How exciting though. Can''t wait to see the finished product!

My diamond is blushing, thank you for your kind words! The problem with the setting is that it sits the diamond up too high :-( I keep knocking it, and freak out and have to loupe it all the time b/c once a prong did come loose...eek! Here''s a pic of the possible Sheldon Speyer

I did end up getting the wband that I posted in my original thread here, but I have been a bad PS''er and haven''t posted any photos. I keep thinking about it, but never seem to get around to doing it. I''ll try to get on that.

I had Speyer make the wband a 3/4 eternity with alternating rounds and French-cut baguettes. Note: I think in one of my jeweler''s catalogs that there was a true matchy-matchy wband option that had a cut-out of sorts to fit completely flush against the basket of the ering setting, but I am not a fan of curved/notched bands so I went with a the one posted above. I tried on a ton of wbands and none really seemed to go with the ering setting except for ones from Speyer.

Yes, the diamond is set pretty low -- much lower than something such as a Tiffany-like 4-prong setting (which is what my mom has). If you look at the pics in my original post you can sort of see how the French-cut baguette side diamonds slant up towards the center diamond, so the center stone isn''t all up there ''by itself''. I don''t have a problem knocking it too much, and haven''t had any prong problems. I do sort of ''baby'' my ring, though -- I work at a computer most of the time, and any time I am home the rings sit in their box. I do, however, wear my rings to the gym (but, again, I am very careful with them) because I would rather have them on me than worry about losing them or someone stealing them.

However, I will say that I did lose one of my side French-cut baguettes back in September (so I had had the ering for about 14 months at that point). There was no damage to the setting at all, so my jeweler and Sheldon Speyer think that when the setting was resized for me it was too drastic a change for the setting and the baguette eventually worked itself loose. (I purchased the setting that my jeweler had in-store as it was at ''older'' platinum prices ... but it had to be sized from the original ~6 to a 3.5.) Because only Sheldon Speyer can really replace the French-cut baguettes, my jeweler had to ship the ering to him to replace the side stones. Since there was no damage to the setting (i.e. I did not do anything to lose the stone) Sheldon Speyer replaced the stones absolutely for free and my jeweler absorbed the shipping costs (so I was definitely satisfied with the customer service I received). I''m a little upset that it happened (I had my ring inspected when I got my wring that April, and there were no problems noted), but I think everything is OK with the setting now. Just thought I would mention that -- I love my setting, but if there is a problem with those French-cut baguettes (which I really like -- love those kite-tables), it has to go back to Speyer.

-did you get plat or wg? any input on that, regarding upkeep and how it has worn?
Both my ering and wring are platinum. As far as I know, Speyer really likes to work in platinum and I am not certain that he makes his settings in white gold. However, I really do not know for certain, as I have a nickel allergy so wg wasn''t an option for me so we didn''t ask.
My ring still looks great to me -- the engraving and milgrain, I think, keep it from getting that scratched-up look that platinum can get. I haven''t had any problems with it at all. Again, I will try to take some pics and post them for you ...

Thank you so much!
