Twisted spacer band

I bit the bullet and put on the 1 mm silver band I purchased just to see how this would look. And it actually isn’t bad. The only problem is that the band itself is so incredibly thin that I’m not sure it’s high enough that the eternity band doesn’t still sometimes make contact with my engagement ring prongs. I know “high enough” it’s not a good description of what I’m trying to say. But all the folks who have been through this yourselves likely know what I’m trying to convey. I definitely will not be putting a spacer between my two 14-karat eternity bands because then it is just too much bulk. So those I will have to solder together, and I can’t wait to see how much this is going to cost me. Thank you all again.

It may not be high enough to serve its purpose. You might have to try a couple different ones to make sure it works. It won't make any sense to wear one that doesn't suit its purpose. Is there a jewelry store you could visit to try some other ones on?

Not really any jewelry stores close by. Is there a measurement for the height that I should be looking for? Maybe I should just choose one of the Etsy bands that someone sent previously. Hopefully that might be high enough.

I have one more question if I may. My eternity bands are 14 karat gold and my engagement ring is platinum. Does it matter which metal I get my permanent spacer band in? Or should I get platinum so that it’s a perfect match color-wise with my engagement ring? Thank you.

The height needed really depends on the height of the eternity band. Where did you buy these bands? Am curious as to why the seller didn’t caution you about wearing these together.

I purchased them from a Jewelry exchange Pl. about an hour from where I live. The kind of place where there’s a million different folks selling jewelry. He didn’t say a word about wearing them together.

He was probably just glad to make the sale. I guess they don’t try to cultivate a client for future purchases. I think any reputable jeweler would point out the fact if they knew someone intended to wear them together.

Quite possibly MissGotRocks, and likely definitely so. And now here’s a little bit of irony: after wearing my silver 1 mm band all day, I ended up really liking the way it looked! Like everybody said, it practically was invisible, but also gave my engagement ring just the slightest push away from the eternity band, which obviously is its intended goal, and I liked the way that looked. So this is a story with a happy ending, isn’t it? Well, not quite. When I got home, I walked up the stairs to my bedroom, pulling my engagement and eternity bands off in the process, in preparation for putting them away for the night, as I always do. And my little 1 mm silver band fell to the floor. And my stairs are covered in the plushest carpeting imaginable. And for the life of me, I cannot find my spacer band. But wait! Because I ended up being so pleased with the look of my silver spacer band, I had ordered a platinum 1 mm spacer band earlier in the day. So all might not be lost after all. No pun intended.

All’s well that ends well! Just be sure to check your vacuum cleaner bag after you vacuum those stairs. I think a spacer band is a small price to pay for a beautiful set of rings - enjoy!

Thank you, MissGotRocks. Hopefully the platinum band will be slightly higher than he missing silver one, and I’ll never have to think about my eternity band rubbing against my engagement ring, and now I’ll just have to solder the two eternity bands together and I can put this whole episode behind me.

All the best to you!

for future reference, you are saying 'higher' what you really need to call it is 'thicker', i.e. how 'thick the metal is. If we were talking about the 'across the band' measurement, we would call it the 'width'. Just in case you need to match a description.

I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who helped me with this process. I purchased a 1 mm 14 karat white gold band, and I think it looks fine. Hopefully I’m correct! Not yet decided on what I’m going to do about the eternity, bands rubbing together, but I don’t think they generally make too much contact with each other. If anything, I will likely solder them. I really do appreciate everyone’s input and think what I ended up with will be fine. IMG_0419.jpeg

I really like the look of my solitaire with two eternity bands. And I’m aware that as long as I like it, that’s all that matters, but has anybody else ever seen anyone else wear this look? I’ve seen plenty of solitaires flanked by an eternity band on either side, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen two eternity bands topped with a solitaire. Just curious.

Never mind. As soon as I sent that, I realize that I could just look on show me the bling!

that was so interesting :kiss2:

Yes, it certainly was. I think I was able to advert disaster with my prongs by getting my spacer ring. I have not fallen completely in love with the spacer yet, but certainly I’m relieved that my engagement ring will not suffer further damage. Thanks to all.
