is anyone else going to use an untraditional song when they walk down the aisle? i just don''t want to use the typical song, but i''m at a loss as to what else to use, i''m not one of those people who can dance down the aisle like that youtube video that''s been going around lately

We have an untraditional song with a traditional twist.

We found string quartet versions of some of our favourite albums then went through them to find suitable songs. We found the perfect one that sounds like was meant to be for an aisle walk! It''s a sting quartet version of a song called "Join Me" by a Finnish rock band called HIM.

Maybe worth trying if you have any albums or songs that are close to your heart.

We thought about having the Glasgow Love Theme (from Love Actually) on piano but decided against it because although it is a REALLY beautiful song, it is a little bittersweet. But a few others here have used it for the processional and loved it. Right now it's one of the songs we are considering having played in the middle of the ceremony.

I''ll be walking down the aisle to the Pas de Deux from Tchaikovsky''s Nutcracker. It''s a piece that has major significance for me, and it''s just stunningly beautiful.

I have loose plans to walk out to Etta James "At Last" ... I wanted it to be our first dance song (but my sister picked it for hers).

Our processional was Vitamin String Quartet''s version of ''Beautiful Day''. You can listen to a preview here.

I also really liked the Vitamin String Quartet''s version of Yellow, Bittersweet Symphony, and Chasing Cars.

Our recessional was All You Need is Love by the String Quartet, also.
Wow, CDN -- I love your selection. Not only do we appear to have similar tastes in engagement rings and DWs, but also wedding music!

Ah, that must by who ours is by then. They had TONS of band tributes. I didn''t get the name of the quartet. My FI did all the leg work.

We may have more in common; the original destination we wanted for our wedding was a winery we came across while touring Tuscany. I

They definitely have A LOT of songs to pick from; it was hard to pick just two.

Yes, they sure do!

It was my idea to find a string quartet version of one our favourite songs, but my FI went ahead and found many tribute albums by this quartet. Neither of us had heard of them before so we spent a long time listening to various albums by them. We both knew what kind of vibe we wanted. We wanted it to sound romantic and as if it were designed to be a wedding song, but something that we recognised and loved. Only about 4 others will know the song and recognise the tune as I walk down the aisle. Hopefully everyone else just be thinking "What a pretty piece of music!"

I know "Lullaby" by the Dixie Chicks has been suggested before.

Lyrics:

They didn''t have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I''m never, never giving you up

I slip in bed when you''re asleep
To hold you close and feel your breath on me
Tomorrow there''ll be so much to do
So tonight I''ll drift in a dream with you

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I''m never, never giving you up

As you wander through this troubled world
In search of all things beautiful
You can close your eyes when you''re miles away
And hear my voice like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I''m never, never giving you up

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I''m never, never giving you up
Is forever enough
Cause I''m never, never giving you up

My best friend used "To make you feel my love" covered by Adele (originally by Bob Dylan. Garth Brooks did a cover too).

I''m thinking about using "Crazy love" by Van Morrison. I just love that song. We probably won''t have a string quartet play it. Probably hire the DJ to come early and set up a set of speakers or something and play the actual version.

I walked down to Trio Rococo''s version of Blackbird.
The song, and this particular version, has always held a special place in my heart.

a my friend''s wedding last weekend she walked down the aisle to a guitar and violin playing hootie and the blowfish''s "hold my hand"- anyone who knows her knows how much she LOVES hootie :) very special touch.

i walked in to cat power''s "sea of love"
bridal party was dave matthews band''s #34

I''m walking down to "Love Remains the Same" by Gavin Rossdale. ;-) The girls are walking in to the classical version of Ecstasy of Gold and the recessional is Metallica''s version of the same.

********double post.... icky*******

I had thought about using the "I will find you" song by Clannad, it was the theme song on The Last of the Mohicans movie (early 90s period flick) that my sisters and I are OBSESSED with (it''s actually sang in the cherokee language). We''re gonna use it somewhere else, though.

Instead, I''m having my sister (MOH) sing me down the isle with "amazing Grace" (Cherokee nation anthem....my grandfather is an elder in the nation) and if she can learn it before then, she''ll sing it in Cherokee. :-D

I''m exciteD!

Pretty much anything by them will do, although I''ll have to check lyrics to make sure they aren''t bitter and twisted (even though you won''t hear the lyrics, I''ll still be humming in my head. I''m also quite tempted by the Masterplan by Oasis.

I wish they did a version of Fleetwood Mac''s Everywhere. That would be the worlds best ever!!

What about "True Love Waits"? It is such a sweet song!

Ooooh, ditto on True Love Waits, I LOVE that song. Also, have any of you heard Christopher O''Riley''s piano covers of Radiohead? They are absolutely gorgeous!

hasn''t been officially set in stone yet, but i think we are having one guitar play some beatles love songs or something like that. maybe here there and everywhere or blackbird or something. no vocals, just the guitar. if people recognize it, great...if not, they''re just pretty melodies anyway.

i heard him play ''in my life'' and i almost started crying. there''s just something about a simple acoustic guitar that gets to me!

wow, thank you everyone for your responses, my family is very traditional so i know they would be weirded out by something different from the typical song, but i''m glad to hear that so many of you are going the untraditional route, i''ll go over some songs with my FI and go from there

I love "To Make You Feel My Love," that was the theme song in the movie Hope Floats (Sandra Bullock), the GB version...Adele does a really nice job with that one as well. I love Adele, though, so I''m biased.

D3oE: I LOVE Last of the Mohicans, that theme song was BEAUTIFUL. (Off to download it right now!) Also, how cool are your Cherokee songs!? That''s awesome. I can''t claim enough NA heritage to be part of a tribe, but I do have ancestors on my father''s side from both Cherokee and Choctaw descent. (I''m 1/16th, FWIW.) Neat blend of contemporary and traditional music!
