I saw a woman the other day that had on the most unusual necklace. Maybe some of you have seen such a piece before but it was new to me and I''m lusting for one. I think it was silver but I''d like one in gold (preferably 18K). Anyway, it hung around her neck in sort of a question mark fashion. One side did not connect to the other side. I even think that she might have had a slide on it that hung down on the end of the ''question mark'' part where there was some sort of bead to hold the slide on there. Anyway, do any of you know where I might find something like this or a web site that might have something for me to look at? Thanks in advance.

Sounds familiar... was this a solid piece (looking like a metal strip or tube or snake chain, not chain) ?

I've seen silver necklaces made of two solid hinged parts (hinge on the back of the neck) that look this way. And then some intricate articulated pieces of gold and platinum that work on the same principle, but are relatively flexible. None among the trendier designs of this moment though.

I know the necklace that you ae talking about. I have that exact one. Or I should say "had". The bottom of the "question mark" curled around into a circle that didn''t close. Mine was sterling sillver. I got tired of it and gave it away to a friend. IMO, It was difficult to find the perfect neckline to wear it with because of the way it hung. I did like it very much because it was different..I just have a very bad habit of getting *tired* of things too easilly

This is NOT me but it is the exact same necklace that I had. I hope it shows up.......

katbadness what you have pictured is gorgeous!!!!! I absolutely love that but I know that is WAY beyond my budget. But it is similar in the fact that there is no connection between the two sides. But when this one went around the neck, it was more like the one (as far as hanging) as the one diamonds4me has shown. You could not see but just the one side. I think it would look great with maybe a mock turtleneck or something like that. Diamonds4me, you are right though - it would have to be the right neckline to really make a statement. Well, the bottom line is - does anybody know where I could get one?

Welcome Paula! And yes it is very addictive! What makes it especially nice is how wonderful, helpful and nice everyone is here. I''m sure you''ll find it a LOT of fun.

I found the necklace that I had in a small boutique near to where I live. But the one in the picture that I posted is here: http://southwestaffinity.com/inventory/Pendants/collars.htm

Its the exact same one that I had. I think I only paid like $15.00 for mine. Not bad! I know that you said the one you saw had a rounded, ball-like end to it? It was probably better quality than mine

Still..not bad for what I paid

I never had any trouble with any of the slides falling off.

Hope this helps a little. I did a google search of "sterling silver collars" and that''s how I found it.

Good luck!

That is a design by Hubert Heldner... Just don''t go on that website. It''s DANGEROUS!

The futuristic thing below is made by Venini (www.venini.it) and somehow does not look like rocket science to adapt into a more mainstream version (the joint on the left side is a simple insert allowing 90 degree rotation, it could be a spring clasp as well). And there surely were one or two pieces of Taxco silver pieces along the same line - if you like havy silver at all.

Ana, I knew I''d seen a piece like the one she posted some place in one of the Italian jewelry sites. That was the one I was looking for.. thanks for posting it..

And... sorry guys, I wish I do design jewelries.. but no.. that was from Hubert Heldner''s site as Ana mentioned.
Man.. and I thought his site is quite obscure.. Ana has mad sleuthing capabilities as well..

And she''s right, his pieces are so dangerous to jewelry addicts like us!!

I know, I know, Ana, you warned me not to go there. But telling me NOT to go to Hubert''s web site is like telling me not to brush my teeth! I HAD to do it. God help me.

They are devine. I''m going to try to do a search for something similar but more in my price range and there is always the possibility that I could have it made. There is a little shop in our little town and I have a good relationship with this small jeweler. He doesn''t have all the latest equipment and has to ''rent'' time on certain machines that he might need, but he does excellent work, and I don''t think he has many customers like me that like odd things (except he did show me a ring that he made for a police officer that was a mini pair of handcuffs if you can believe that). I guess I don''t especially like odd things - just different ones. I was thinking in terms of something in 18K in maybe even a hammered effect. What do you think? it wouldn''t even have to have anything hanging off of it as far as I''m concerned. I just liked them look.

Maybe we are sisters then ?

There is no way a ''rough'' finish on gold could dissapoint. If your jeweler does carving and reising all for the better. You may want to stop me posting about goldwork at some point... until then:

Gold folds anyone ?

And hand formed gold and silver...

Oh Ana, I just love the last one you posted. Where oh where do you find these things? Jeez, I''m glad I don''t know how to do the searches you do!!!!! There are still a few changes I''d want to make but this is just about the best start I could hope for. I hope I get to talk to the jeweler next week. Of course, in the meantime, IF you should find anything else interesting (as if you couldn''t!!!!)

, keep them coming! And thanks everybody for all the help.

Oups... forgot to mention the links. The earrings come from RW Wise Jewelers. I saw them when looking for a certain pearl ring yesterday.

The necklace comes from Nancy Linkin's pages on Guild.com (LINK). The piece (and others) are made by anticlastic rising with gold showing on one side and silver on the other (two sheets forged together, not plating). These things really do look like ribbon and I doubt could be replicated in satisfactory manner by casting... But perhaps she can acomodate changes or your jeweler can modify one of these pieces ? Something should work

You can also see the exact links by right-click and selectiong "Properties" on the photos.
