I've always assumed that they have the "real" thing as well as copies for times when they don't feel it's best to have them, like when traveling or working in a remote area or for those who must remove personal jewelry for the job. Of course, that's just what's in my head and I also assume they can afford the insurance for what they have

I"ve heard stories about wealth ladies set their lab gems with earth mined diamonds, then causally took them off, and handed them to acquaintances at functions.
