I'm hoping someone can help me! I've posted earlier about possibly haloing my current 1.70 round brilliant, but when I went to try on round halos they seemed to take away from the stone. I have an appt. with my jeweler on Saturday and would like some tips before I meet her. This jeweler has been good to me, but she stated it would cost us 10k to upgrade the current stone to a 2.2 rb with the same specs. That seems ridiculous to me because I've found several 2.2 ribs for $12 or $13k. Is this true??

We paid $8500 for the current stone it's a g graded si2. She's recommending just haloing the stone in a cushion halo.

I like this one,see below, but wonder if I won't be happy in the long run? She's saying she could do it for $1100

My other thought is to try and swap out the rb for an oval. Is that a bad decision? I know ovals are cheaper and I honestly think with a subtle halo it would be gorgeous. Plus the shape would really flatter my long thin fingers!! Here's a pic of what I'm thinking.

Please let me know which is the better financial decision.

Thank you in advance!

I'm a huge oval fan personally. I think they are very finger flattering.

You might want to move this over to Rocky Talky to get mroe opinions. (click report on the top of your post)

Thank you!!

Like pp, I also like ovals. However! Please consider the cushion halo option - I did this very thing to my 1.7 RB and I LOVE it! Totally changed the look of my ring. Jewels by Erica Grace did it for about $3300.

I really don't think you would find a good 2 carat (or above) round brilliant diamond for 12 or 13 thousand. Especially if you want it to be near colorless and eye clean.

I like the cushion halo idea. You will get more finger coverage for considerably less.

If you go for a halo it's probably about picking the right type of halo. There are a number of vendors on here that create wonderful halos that blend with and really enhance the centre stone, if you tried on ones that are competing with it, then the melee in the halo was probably too large or something was out of proportion with the centre stone that made them look not quite right.

Thank you so much for the responses. Yes, the galis she gave me were just obnoxious, see pic. Below and wasn't a great idea if my stone Halo'd because that's a 2.5 rb. I'm planning on going to Tiffany's and trying on a few in their soleste line.

The RBs I was looking at were the same clarity as my stone, but I or j colored..but I was planning to have the setting replaced since all of mine are g colored.

Thanks again,
Melissa

I paid $15k for my 1.7 G/SI1, so your $8500 was a great deal. I'm not sure you can find anything over 2 carats for 12-13k, unless you really go down in color. And you don't want to sacrifice the cut.
