I booked a venue today!!!!!! No - I''m not officially engaged yet - No ring on my finger, but SO and I have been talking about getting married for about a year now and it went from "well we might as well research some places" to "I might as well email the place to see how the dates are booking up" to "When do you want to get married?" to "I might as well go see the venue" to "IM GOING TO PUT A DEPOSIT DOWN!". I''m so excited I feel like I could just walk out into the street and shout I''m getting MARRIIEEEEDD!! I dont even care that he hasnt gotten down on one knee and presented me with a ring - I wish I could explain the feeling better through text. We are getting married July 3 2010 no ifs ands or buts! Its the 4 year anniversary of the day we met and SO and I could not be more content with the date - not too close not too far. For those of you who dont know, my SO is in the navy and has been on deployment since October so I''m doing all of this w/o him

Its not behind his back, we''ve talked about everything from our save the dates to the menu in emails. I went to the venue with two of my future bridesmaids who were more then happy to come along for the tour and we took lots of pictures to choose which site we want to hold the reception and ceremony (there are a couple at the one venue) In a way it keeps me closer to him, planning all this out, without him physically being here. Ah! I''m just on cloud 9 right now I didnt realize how real everything would seem without an official engagement. I cant wait to tell people - I told one of my coworkers tonight at an event we both had to attend, I called my best friend and told her on the way home from the venue, and I''m going to tell my brother when he gets home tomorrow. I know everyone is expecting us to get married - but planning it backwards might be a little bit of a surprise, in a good way. I just cant keep it inside ''til SO gets back and were officially engaged! I want to share it with everyone in my life including my fellow PSers

I never thought I''d be in this position, it never even crossed my mind to do the planning and booking prior to the engagement - I suppose no LIW plans it that way - but it doesnt feel wrong in anyway and I just cant wait for the next year and a half and all it has in store for SO and I. Thanks for sharing in my excitement

yay!! that''s so exciting! i get why it might feel like you''re planning it all backwards, but given your circumstances i don''t think anyone would fault you for that! i''m so glad that you''ve found a venue you love, and it''s so cute that your date has a special meaning for the two of you!!

thank you vita

That''s awesome, congratulations girl! Keep us posted on all your planning, we can''t wait to hear about the proposal too! :)

congrats on getting such a special date...how exciting

that''s my dad''s birthday... :-)

Congratulations!

Your post made me smile because I can tell how totally excited you are! I think that''s great - not that I know, but I''m sure deployment has been agonizing and wedding planning can definitely relieve some of that. Your post also made me smile because there is a venue that B and I are considering that fills up approx. 18 months in advance. I recently talked to him about booking it prior to being engaged (we want to get married June 2010, and 18 months is...now!) and he said NO WAY JOSE! So, bummer, I am jealous your guy doesn''t care!

Do you want to provide more details/pics about the venue?

woowoo!
all my SO does is talk about how much he wants Chik-Fila (spelling) to cater our wedding.
I had to (very nicely) put my foot down. :) Maybe Ill get him a groom''s cake made entirely out of chicken biscuits

Thanks for the congrats and kind words everyone

laughwithme I''m sorry youre SO wasnt open to booking in advance

Sometimes I dont think the males truly realize that people are getting married ALL THE TIME and it really does take preplanning to get your #1 venue choice. Theres hope though, SO and I were concerned with our date because its the fourth of july weekend AND a Saturday in 2010 which made me worry that itd be popular. If you and your SO know you want to get married in June 2010 but dont have a specific date theres a good chance you''ll be able to get a Friday booked, if not one of the Saturdays that may stay open, even if youre not booking it at this 18mo mark. The venue also told me that 18mo is the typical book up date for the ceremony site and reception hall we chose on the premises, but I really have no idea if there was a chance of it getting booked anytime soon. Keep in mind that they run businesses and the easiest way for them to get bookings is to make people feel that they might not get the venue if they dont strike while its hot. Stay optimistic

ckrickett I think itd be hilarious if your grooms cake was a pile of biscuits or chicken tenders! I was googling grooms cake the other day to show SO what people do with them (Im getting one made of the dog I bought him a year and a half ago, he writes about missing her as much as he writes about missing me - if this dog had fingers he''d buy her a mini ering to match mine I swear!

) Anyway- SIDETRACKED- I was googling grooms cakes and there was one that was a tower of burgers. It just screamed GROOM! It was great I love adding a sense of humor to it all.

Oh my goodness!

That is so sweet :) CONGRATULATIONS!

I love how people in this forum understand that it is okay to think about your wedding/talk about your wedding even when you are not engaged! Finally, I fit in somewhere - lol.

This is so awesome for you two :) I can''t wait to read/see more about it!

That''s awesome! I''m soo happy for you!!

I know how hard it is with the communication, but I''m glad you guys are working out a way to communicate!

Now you just have to share pics of the venue with us!!!!

I''m very excited for you. How quickly does the venue you GOT

book up in advance? I already have my own venue in mind too. I''ve emailed them and FF and I have driven up to the place (but didn''t get out of the car because there was a wedding that day) but I haven''t gone any further than that. FF and I have our anniversary (the day we met) on July 2nd.

I really hope to get married on that day.....

Your post made me smile...I could definitely tell your excitment

I do have pictures! Of course! I just have to resize them tomorrow because they''re way too large!

And, for dreamgirl, the coordinator said that the venue I got as well as one of the other 4 (mine and the other are both 75-150 guests max I suppose that makes them popular as well vs the up to 300 guests venue and the only 75 guest venue) book up between 18 and 15 months in advance.. supposedly 2 of 4 venues are already booked for July 3rd 2010 and now we made 3 of 4.

i resized them now, who needs sleep anyway?

That's just CRAZY! It makes me so nervous to think that my dream venue could be booked up on my dream wedding date...arrrg! I will keep my fingers crossed. I am so calling them the day after getting engaged!

I emailed my dream venue back in March and I was told that they had 7 dates for April, May, June and July 2009 booked already. (I'm not getting married in '09 but that was nearly a year and a half in advance...)

Woohoo, congratulations!!!

the cottage gate for the cocktail/reception site

around the side of the cottage is the entry to the ceremony site where the guests are led when they first arrive..

then the guests go back to the cottage and cocktail hour is held on the lower level both outside and inside.. this is the garden area around the side..

the inside lower area is like an old pub, which I love for some reason

Theres also a huge old fire place and then a wrought iron spiral stairs where the guests are led upstairs for the reception after cocktail

a little less murky of a picture..
