Wanted to share - day at the bridal show

Happy New Year to all fellow bride-to-be''s!

J and I just spent the day at the big Let''s Get Married bridal show here in Montréal... It was amazing! We were pretty shocked by some of the prices we saw, but with a little digging we found what we were looking for within our budget, so I''m very pleased.

We''d been debating on whether we wanted a band or a DJ, and I also wondered if it would be possible to get a singer for our reception... I went to a wedding where they had one and it was by far the one I liked the most. But I figured it would be too expensive, as I''ve set a 1000$ limit on the entertainment. We found this amazing father-daughter singing duo for 850$ for the whole night!

I also completely fell in love with a dress... I''d seen it on the Alfred Angelo website and it hadn''t caught my eye, but seeing it in person...

I''ll have to try it on of course, and I can''t wait!

We also have plenty of information to pick a great photographer within our budget. J has his heart set on wearing white, and I think he''ll look dashing!

We had a great day, and we now have more than enough information to plan the whole thing. This feels very real right now!

Sounds like you had fun! That''s pretty cool that J went with you. I''d never be able to get FI to go to one. I don''t think I ever want to go to another one either. I hate crowds and FI hates them worse than I do.

Thanks girls! Thankfully it wasn''t too crowded today, and we''re not sorry we went! J is very pleased about this too and he picked our wedding song from the fashion show soundtrack, "I''m Amazed by You". It''s a beautiful song!

I''ve been trying to convince him to agree to dancing lessons with me for a few weeks, and after talking to a lady from a dancing school today I think I have!

How exciting Anchor!! I remember how fun FI and I had a the bridal show we went to soon after our engagement.

And how cool about the dance lessons. FI and I will also be taking them...I think they'll be a lot of fun for us!

ETA: Robbie I'm with you! One bridal show was enough for me! We're not fans of big crowds either!

sounds like a great day--sometimes an excursion like that is all you need to get the ball rolling and initiate the planning

FI and I start dance lessons tomorrow! (totally his idea, which i thought was cute, he has his shoes lined up at the door)
Like you I set an entertainment buget (of 1500) for my wedding, really hoping that i could get a band for the night for that cost. I contacted an area band that i love (4 member) and their cost (including driving 1.5 hrs to the venu) is $950!! i was amazed, and so excited...i mean, who would want to pay over $1000 for a DJ when you can get live music?! It makes a huge difference to the feel of the party imo.

Mmmm, I've been admiring that dress too.

I asked FI about dance classes after reading about some of yours and he said definitely. I'm so excited.

Is 18 months out too soon to start looking at dresses??? I'm wondering whether I should try and buy my dress in the US in September, for an august 08 wedding. You girls have so much more choice and way cheaper than here in the UK!

RoseAngel - It was fun... But I agree that once is enough. I was excited to go and I''m very happy I went, but I don''t think I''d go again. It wasn''t that crowdy, but I think all these vendors approching me constantly kind of bothered me!

Jas - I totally know how you feel about paying 1000$ + on a DJ when you can get live music for even less! I''ve been playing music for most of my life and having a DJ didn''t really feel like "me".

Pandora - It''s really stunning, I can''t wait to try it! And it''s not a very expensive dress, according to the Alfred Angelo website it''s under 999$, 439$ at houseofbrides.com. And don''t worry, I tried on my first dresses last October, 23 months before the wedding! I plan on ordering mine (probably online to save some $$$) next August for my September 2008 wedding, so no I don''t think it''s too early.

I see that a lot of people will be taking dancing lessons... I think it''s a great activity to do together.

Hey Anchor,

My baby is forever trying to drag me to the bridal shows at Place Bonaventure. I went once and just picked up some names of wedding planners, so it was really useful. The dress is FABULOUS! Hope you get to try it one soon. I love color on wedding dresses. I think it is such a stunning, bold statement. Keep us updated!

I think that dress is beautiful!!! My friend wore one similar from Davids Bridal and she looked great on her wedding day (her colors were red and white).

I agree with you that once is enough for bridal shows. I went to one in Newport, RI with my friend at one of the mansions, and it was fun,but it was crowded and overwhelming! The free champagne got us through it though!

Hey ally - I was wondering how you were doing! After seeing more dresses, I''m 99% sure I want colour on mine, I love the look of it. My mom and sister seem to want to wait until the last minute before going shopping, next August just before my sister leaves for a year on her exchange. I hope she won''t be difficult picking her own dress, because once she gets back it''ll be too late to order...
