I think I''m going to purchase a policy. They don''t appear to be too expensive. Has anyone done this? Is anyone considering doing it?

Which insurance company did you use? I''m considering Firemans and Wedsafe... any experiences or anecdotes?

i have heard of this, but what exactly is it??? like if you have an outdoor wedding and it rains? or like if the wedding is boring and no one has fun? or is it insurance against divorce???? hahaha sorry i''m clueless but it seems like a funny concept to me!!!

My mom purchased it for my wedding. I''m not sure which company, but it was through her usual insurer... i.e., she bought it from one of her colleagues'' wives who sells her normal insurance.

The policy cost a mere $500 but covered a LOT. If the club had been hit by a tornado... if a disaster struck the area and nobody could get to the wedding... if (like another 9/11) air traffic was stopped and none of the important parties could get to the wedding, etc... It also provided liability coverage for the alcohol and all the vendors and such. In the end, we didn''t "need" it, but that''s part of why you purchase insurance... you hope you don''t. Our peace of mind was reason enough.

She did make sure to tell me that it did not cover us backing out of it... I''ve read that there are some policies that will. Of course, if you have to get insurance for that sort of thing, maybe the whole "planning the wedding" should be reconsidered, right! Apparently that is only for a 3rd party, like the poor parent paying for it when the couple isn''t concrete. I assured my mom not to worry.

I want it for a) a disaster and b) vendor''s flaking or not showing up and c) something happening to our wedding pics, negatives, etc, after the wedding and d) if there is a death in the immediate family. I have provisions in all my major contracts about Acts fo God and deaths in the family (allowing for no loss of deposit and one year to re-book with the vendor), but I like the peace of mind of the insurance on top of it all.

death in the family was a big concern for us too. My grandmother is in end-stage ovarian cancer, but she made it to the wedding. even walked down the aisle. And she''s still with us. I was very worried we would lose her the week of my wedding... my grandfather died 8 days before my brother''s wedding. We were able to manage both, but it was a rough time.

Insurance is more fore peace of mind. Obviously the money can''t fix anything after the fact, but it can help with lost fees and general well-being.

That must be the lawyer in you. I hope all is well in your family, especially your mother.

It''s definitely the lawyer in me. LOL. I even have a REALLY long version of the ''Acts of God'' provision in case I really want to get particular about it. But so far I haven''t have to break that out. Most of the vendors are pretty understanding about wanting that provision in there. All is well with my family to date gtn, thank you for asking. I hope all is well with yours.

Sumbride, yeah,my worries are (god forbid) my grandfather and my mother''s surgery. In both our cultures (mine and John''s) a year of mourning following a death in the immediate family before any celebrations is customary. And I believe in honoring the (god forbid) dead. I''m so happy to hear your grandmother was able to walk down the aisle and that she is still with you. Grandparent''s are such a blessing.

I think insurance is a great idea, unfortunately I can''t buy it for a renewal of vows. They don''t cover that here.

I thought I saw a general "private event" insurance type as well. That might work for you Maisie.

I''m seriously considering wedding insurance but I''m still undecided.

It''s pretty common in my area of the country. Summertime, which is when most weddings take place also happens to be hurricane season here

So, everyone kinda buys it to keep their bases covered.

Speaking of storm season, it''s probably a good idea to look into at least "honeymoon insurance" or "trip insurance" if you''re planning a honeymoon between the start of June and the end of November anywhere in the Caribbean, the southern US seaboard, or Mexico. Even some of the tropical storms pack a nasty punch, so it can''t hurt to be prepared.

Do you know if I would be allowed to buy a policy from the US, seeing as my event would take place there?

I don''t know, but I would definitely look through the links above and see. If it''s taking place in the US, then I suspect they''d cover it, but I have nothing but a hunch to base my suspicions on.
