Hi everyone! I just have to share some of my excitement! I am having a calligrapher handwrite my wedding invites so that I can get them engraved, and it looks like I''ll have my proofs this wednesday!! I am SO thrilled to see how the invitation and other pieces turn out! The calligrapher I am using is so incredibly talented, I am planning on posting my proof as soon as I see it! Just wanted to ask a question though, have any of you had your invitations hand calligraphed, or do you know anyone who has? I work at a stationery store, so I have been planning my invitations for quite some time now, and they are probably the one part of the wedding I am most looking forward to. I am using Crane paper stock, it''s a large thick ecru cotton card, typically used for letterpress, but I will be engraving the calligraphy on them in a metallic gold ink. I''ll also be having the envelopes calligraphed as well, probably in a classic black ink. Ok, enough stationery talk! I forget that not everyone is surrounded by it every day and it''s not all that interesting to most-- I just can hardly contain myself!!

sounds fabulous! i hope you post pics of them when they are done! and yum for crane's paper. it's my favorite!

oh, and i had calligraphy done for my wedding envelopes. they were done by blooming quill. love her work!

can''t wait to see the proofs!

Our invitations were engraved Crane's invites, but my mother is a professional calligrapher and she hand calligraphed all of our envelopes.

What do you mean when you say you will be engraving the invites after they are calligraphed? I'm very intrigued by this.

I understand your excitement over the invitations. I always knew I'd have engraved invitations for my wedding (and Crane's invites, of course) so I was so looking forward to that aspect of planning. We had our engraving plate framed with an invitation after the wedding, I love it!

Haven, by engraving the calligraphy onto the invitations, I mean that my calligrapher will send me a file of my calligraphy (pdf, or something?) and I will send this as custom artwork to Crane for them to engrave on my invitations. In other words, instead of using a standard Crane font, the image of my calligraphy will be printed onto each card. Does that make sense? I can''t wait to see the finished product!

Oh, that''s very interesting. I''ve never seen such an invitation. We''ve received a lot of invites that were individually calligraphed, but never an engraved invitation made from calligraphy.

I adore stationery myself, I can''t wait to see your proofs!

OK! Here it is!!! Hope the size is right...

Hmm got a little distorted it seems... But anyway, isn''t it lovely?!! Here is my return address (I wonder if I should be posting my street on the internet? ha)
Still waiting on my response card and envelope address.

It''s beautiful! What lovely calligraphy.

We used almost the same exact wording on our invites. I''m a sucker for a formal invitation, and especially one with calligraphy.

It''s really beautiful, great choice!

SO stunning! i got married in louisiana too. i had such a hard time finding a nice calligrapher locally, so i ended up going with someone in wisconsin!

your invitations are going to be so gorgeous! if i were a guest, i''d definitely keep it as a lovely keepsake!

Thanks so much to both of you! I am using Kathryn Podorsky- she is SO talented! I believe she has an Etsy account, under della carta. I can''t wait to see how my actual invitations look once the engraving is done. And the gold ink - I think it will really be something!
