my gf and i want to get married during the "offseason" to save money on the wedding expenses (venue, catering, etc...)

when exactly is this offseason though - we were thinking about getting married March ''09. I wanted to see how long of a window we have for the offseason so we can potentially do it a bit later so we have more time to plan!

Where are you located? Off season varies depending on where you are, and on the specific vendor as well at timea. Many vendors do offer off season rates though, so it's a smart idea. DJ's, photographers, venues.

BTW in your other thread you said you guys were staying away from hotels to save money. Actually hotels and all inclusive venues like that are sometimes the most cost effective. I could have saved probably 2000 overall by going with a really nice hotel, and more than that with a less nice hotel. I just didn't want a hotel venue as a personal perference. It was one of my 'not going to compromise' priorities.

Totally depends on the venues and vendors. Some places I went, I inquired about off-season prices and they looked at me like I had three heads. The place I ended up with had a fantastic price per head for Fridays in Jan, Feb or March. So that''s how we ended up with our date! Any other month, on a Saturday, the price was almost doubled.

You might be able to do in any month you want ... ask about Friday pricing. Offseason is typically Nov - March, though.

Yes, very dependent on location and vendors. I''m in New York and our venue''s "off season" was Nov-April. So we booked the last Sat in April! Also, they had SAME pricing for Fri and Sat night weddings- perfect (but rare!)

However, our friends are getting married in spring 09 and was also thinking April. They booked a deffereny venue who offered menu packages based on the month, not the season. March was cheaper than April, so they are doing March 09.

It really does very.

we are located in northern va...

let me clarify about our wedding ideas - we are doing a 2 day ceremony and to save money we thought we would do one at a hall and the other at a hotel/ballroom/similar type venue.. if we get a good deal we might actually do it at the similar type place.

what would be the offseason in VA? does that mean you will get hte best deals for honeymoons if you book it during this time period as well?

You will have to call around for 'off season' definitions. But Dec, January, and Februrary are usually in there in you are in an area that has a cold winter in those months. Whether March and/or April are just depends. Yes, off season applies for honeymoons, but be careful... off season time in DC/N.Va. is HIGH season in many tropical areas, as this is the time when the weather is most predicatable and mild.

Where I am October-March is off season according to the wedding coordinator I met with. Contrary to what she told me (however) the hotels have mostly told me something to the effect of "we don't have an off-season." While outside venues charge sometimes half the price during their off season. This of course excludes certain holidays such as Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day.

ETA: I am in central Virginia.
