Hello all : ) Happy FRIDAY!!!

I did a repeat of my 60 min, 7.5 miles today on the elliptical. Such a good feeling!! I also pushed myself to do my typical routine of weights as well (yesterday I skipped it because I was wiped, and satisfied with myself enough for the day).

You know how TV or cable has certain ways to keep your kids from watching ''R'' rated shows, or violence, etc? I think they need to come up with a version of that for food commercials! Seriously, those Domino''s pizza, the ice cream, SNICKERS, are driving me nuts on TV... and once I hear about a food I miss and SHOULDN''T eat... well, it''s in my head for the rest of the day!!!

Hope everyone''s workouts are going smoothly : )

worked out last nite, and got sushi which was super yummy....ate some tempura too which is a big weakness...tee hee. today i had a citrus salad for lunch, with some of the faux pizza bread that comes with it from this local restaurant,

i worked my butt off last nite and today my whole body is a big achey mess!!! hehee. i also went for a 1.5m walk this morning with princess p and hopefully i'll be able to get out again before greg comes home and go for another 1m walk with her to reach my mental goal for the day. we're having dinner in SF and then meeting friends for drinks...so the typical weekend begins. hehee. i'm working out tomorrow morning too (ow!) and then we're going for a long walk on sunday.

hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!

Oh I miss San Fran! My best friend used to live there, and I''d make a couple trips a summer. I could watch the seals play for ages! I never was able to drive comfortably in the area, though. Steep hills scare the daylights out of me, and I do NOT like the bridge you have to cross! Have fun!

I''ve not been doing good this week, and I''d like to say today I did better. But that would be a lie. I do plan on continuing walking my dog, though. We''re scheduled for our two mile walk at 8. I hope it fits in *her* schedule.

Ran two miles today. Didn''t do anything yesterday; was too lazy. It''s so hard getting back into the routine after a vacation, but I''m working on it. I''m going to try to squeeze in a workout tomorrow too, so I''ll have a minimum of 3 workouts for the week.

Just a quick question: Does walking an entire day and standing in line at Disneyland from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. count as exercise? I feel it really isn''t because I''m eating bad foods, but I guess the walking negates the effects of the churros, popcorn, fries, and ice cream. (And yes, that''s all in one day. Ugh.)

Did the same thing tonight and yummm, it was super good. PLUS, was really bad and had a piece of marble cake at Starbucks afterwards. Working with our trainer tomorrow morning and will do an extra 100 pushups as penance for my caloric sins..........

Mara, I''m glad you got over your KF cruelty fix...I used to love me some KFC! Now I do call it KFCruelty, if you ever have the cajones to visit Peta''s website just for kicks you''ll see why. But really, I totally understand the compulsion to eat there. They DO have some great fast food that makes your taste buds go "ummmmmmm" for like 45 minutes. I LOVE their mac and cheese. as well as their cole slaw...not to mention that I really used to love the skin on the chicken, hee hee. For all my grand ideas of saving the animals/not eating meat ever/making a statement, they are the best tasting fast food conglomerate out there, imo. However, I got over it, I guess. I won''t lie, though...sometimes I still get cravings for a good ol'' bucket with some sides.

But I don''t act upon it and I was happy to see you only do it a couple times a year. (Totally not passing judment--to each her own!)

So in the heat here I''ve been working out inside a lot! I actually made it to my gym twice this week and did some treadmill time, as well as some circuit training...and at home I''ve been keeping up with the weights and eating pretty well. Every time I''ve been grocery shopping I''ve picked up lots of produce and it''s been going over well with DH. I just brought home a 3 lb. bag of Granny Smith apples and an Angel Food cake, and he was ecstatic, so I think I''m doing pretty well with setting an ok example? I did, however, read the nutrition label on the pre-made cake, and it said the calories for one serving were 180! The serving size is lke 1/8th, which concerns me cause I know he would eat like half of it in one sitting, arrgh!
6.gif
But what are you gonna do? at least I know he''s getting his fruit servings because I bought fresh raspberries and blackberries which he loves to go with it....

This weekend willl be a whole lotta doin'' nothing! It''s still really hot here and if we get the grass cut and all the plants/flowers watered we''ll be doing well. Exercise/schmerxercise....no seriously I will at least be taking the doggie for short walks in the mornings.

Lorelei, I have NO problem with moving this to F,H&H. I also think that maybe since we are gaining so many responses we should possibly go back to the "daily" workout thread format? What does everyone think? Or should we just try it and see?>>

i'm fine with moving the thread to FHH, but i actually like the weekly format because it gives us more 'history' to discuss aka like monarch you posted last nite at 3am so would that be the old thread in the daily? if so, then if i started a new saturday thread then i would have to reference your old 3am thread in the other day etc. i just find the weekly format a bit more reader friendly and if i don't have time to catch up for a day or so then i can just read the last page of responses and i'm all caught up.

anyway i worked out this morning...bummer is that last nite i totally felt like i was getting a cold and this morning i felt fairly crappy...so i hemmed and hawed but GREG my sabotager brought home donuts from work last nite (his coworker said, hey i can't take these home, my wife will kill me..here you take them..i said to greg obviously i'm not as threatening as i thought if you took them...hehee)...and of course they are those thick cakey ones with frosting on them which are some of my faves. UGH. and one glazed. donuts are a total weakness. so we said we'd each have one (or two?) today and then give the rest to our bachelor neighbor. so i knew i'd be eating a donut today and i thought oh if i don't go workout and pig out on donuts i will feel so guilty. plus we are having mexican tonite. so i dragged myself outta bed and went to class, i was kind of flagging but i did a good job and class went 5 minutes past normal so i did a bit extra which is cool. so at least now i feel good for going. and i tend to feel better re: cold-wise after working out. i just really don't want to get sick right now.

breakfast was this optimum rebound 10g protein, flax seed green tea cereal from whole foods, you are supposed to eat it after working out so i tried it this morning. wow talk about filling. i only ate about 1/2 a cup and i'm full for now. so the donut will have to wait til it's snack time! we don't typically have 'lunch' on weekends, so i just tend to eat fruit or something from the fridge, and then tonite we'll probably go to our fave mexi place and have a few margaritas and some rice and beans! i'm hoping to get another walk in tonite with greg after dinner, at least 1-2m just to stretch the legs and then tomorrow we'll try to do the same if not longer.

monarch it's good to see you checking in! oh don't tell me about visiting peta to see what KFC is up to, girl!! i'm sure it's no good and i'd probably feel like losing my breakfast. i already know it's gross and yes it tastes good for the 30 minutes it takes to eat it...but it's the after effects that are scary. especially how it makes your stomach lurch and bubble. you gotta wonder okay whats in there? if only our parents knew what they were doing to us when we'd have it when we were little!!! they would have served us salads instead. hehe.

anyway, have a fab weekend gals (and rod), anyone want some donuts?!!?

I don''t care where this thread is. And as the threads only guy (who is certainly no LIW), I''ve managed to overcome my hesitation about coming to the LIW to share.

I learned a really valuable lesson today. We''ve moved our personal training sessions to Saturday mornings, as opposed to Saturday afternoons. While I am more awake on a Saturday afternoon, 2:00 PM seemed to mess up the whole day. But, the last two weeks, I''ve struggled with the morning session.

Here''s what I finally figured out.

1. I wasn''t drinking enough and was starting a grueling session somewhat dehydrated
2. I hadn''t eaten enough food. A scone and bowl of fruit isn''t enough to fuel a strenuous session

So, this morning, we got up and I immediately began hydrating myself. (I don''t want to gross anyone out, but the best way to tell if you are hydrated enough is to check the color of your urine. Yellow = not hydrated = Bad. Clear = equals hydrated = Good). In addition to my morning scone (have you had the new Tart Cherry Scones from Panera?? - quite addictive), we had three eggs fried with Pam and three turkey sausage patties. This gave me so much energy for my workout, that after our trainer whooped our butts for an entire hour, I had enough left to get on the elliptical for another hour. Then instead of having lunch, we had the Muscle Milk Protein Shake I wrote about earlier in the week which is loaded with nutrients and whey protiens. But we didn''t chase it down with a meal.

Tomorrow, we''ll work out on our own for a couple of hours, then after dinner, we walk 3 - 4 miles and on the way home, get a frozen fat free yogurt - yumm!!

I hope you''re all enjoying a terrific weekend. ''

Mara: Hope you enjoyed that donut and don''t feel bad about eating it either. Also glad you pushed yourself to go workout. So far, everytime I''ve thought I might be coming down with something, I''ve pushed myself in the gym and low and behold, I never got sick. Who knows, maybe it''s an immune system booster to sweat it out??

Ok I will post this in FH&H tomorrow and stick to the weekly thread for now and see how we get on? I love the way this thread is going!

Hubby bought this Idiots Guide To Working Out and it is so hilarious as well as packed with useful info! The writer is a scream with his oneliners! I have learned that I should not go to workout on just a cup of coffee but at least drink some water. I can't eat that early though, also as I am a piggy I don't want to rush my precious breakfast as it is my largest meal of the day!

We went for a walk and run last night and I was able to run much further which was good progress. The gym is closed on weekends which is a pain so we have to do something else. Hubby is doing great and only has 7 pounds to reach his goal

Well done everyone, we have had a great week! Rod your food sounds yummy!

FAO MONARCH!!!! Did you manage to quit smoking? I have just begun, so I thought if you still hadn't quit, maybe we could help each other somewhat. Sorry for the threadjack peeps, over and out

lorelei doesn't it drive you nuts how easily the men can lose the weight when they set their minds to it? women it's like a 5 month process to lose 15 lbs, men it's like oh a month...maybe. i swear! not fair. but kudos to hubby for doing it...hehee.

we went for a 2.5m walk last nite, it could have been more than 2.5m, but i didn't bring my pedometer with me so i was just estimating based on previous walks, but the outside of my hips (saddlebag area!) were BURNING on the way home....so that's good. so not a bad day with my morning workout and the long walk...so it negated bad eating hopefully. i didn't have a margarita last nite so i feel like i saved 800 calories right there, lol....i just didn't feel like drinking last nite.

tonight hopefully we can go for a walk again...i don't know if greg will be as game 2 nights in a row, maybe we can get over to the park and do the walk there so it's not the same route as last nite. breakfast is a wheat bagel with lowfat cream cheese and smoked salmon with onions and lox (YUM) and coffee, and then i'm having lunch with my mom and sister...and then dinner i am torn between doing something like a super fresh light pasta primavera with lots of veggies OR a steak and corn thing...hmmm hmmmm. we'll see how the day goes!!!

have a fab rest of the weekend kiddies!! tomorrow is a new week. hehee.

ETA: Rod i do totally feel like when i am getting sick and workout that it either gets rid of the cold or makes it not quite as bad. i think it definitely is a positive thing as long as you don't push yourself to exhaustion kind of thing...but getting the heartrate up and sweating is probably good for the cold. i definitely felt better after my workout yesterday. this morning i can still feel it kind of trying to get me, so hoping i can hold it off...!!

unfortunately, I can''t call myself a "quitter" yet. I stayed on the wagon for almost 2 months while I was doing so much walking for the marathon I did...after that dropped off I started picking them up here and there, usually in social situations, i.e., drinks with friends (who smoke!) I am one of those people who can put them down for 3-4 days and not even think about smoking as long as I''m busy...I guess i rationalize it that way--in my mind, I''m not doing it all the time so it''s not that big of a deal. Obviously the logical side of my brain knows better, and I am typically very embarrassed about being a "smoker" even if it''s a pretty casual thing for me. I''ve had so many people say to me "I can''t believe you smoke! You are the last person I thought would be a smoker!" I make a point of not smoking in front of people who either don''t know about it or who don''t smoke themselves...I''m pretty much a "closet smoker."

I''m thinking of going the hypnotism route this fall, a couple of my friends have had success with it--one has not smoked for almost 8 months now and is very happy with the results. Other than that, we have a smoking cessation program at my job...I should just sign up for it and get it over with *sigh*. Anyway, I will be happy to try to motivate you at anytime and give you words of encouragement...and you can tell me what a silly ass I am for not quitting, lol!

Hello Monarch...........I can certainly relate to being embarrased to be a smoker. I was so ''closeted'' that no one in my family ever knew I smoked and I smoked for nearly 30 years. This week and I am proud to say I have made it one entire year without a nasty cigarette (reformed smokers are the absolute worst you know) and I will never have another one, not even a little puff.

BTW.....in case you didn''t know, the thread has moved to the Family and Health forum.

Best of luck on the not smoking. BTW......we have an exhibit here in Tampa called Bodies. It was quite controversial as the displays are comprised of formerly real people and they are exposed in amazing ways. The "smoker" is a frightening thing to behold. I had been a non smoker several months when I went, but it''s remarkable to see how many people see the lung of the smoker and take their cigarettes out of their pockets and purse and just leave them there at the smokers display. Hopefully, a good portion of the people who do deposit their cigarettes there actually become non smokers.

Anyway, best of luck on the non smoking front. It''s perhaps the single hardest thing I''ve ever done in my life.
