The thing I cannot for the life of me understand is the majority of Trump supporters vote against the very things that will make their lives better.

I have a father who actually think Trump will save their lives. It is so ridiculous. These people couldn’t come up with $5,000 if their life depended on it. They are barely living month to month. They have no savings, no 401K, no stocks and they actually think Trump is all for helping them. His wife’s grandchildren have no medical insurance. They actually think Trump understands their struggles. It’s mind boggling my mind.

Yeah, that's like 75% of his base. Republicans vote against their own interests most of the time. They aren't educated enough

I am not sure how Trump, or any president, has anything to do with your father's situation? Obama was president 8 years before that so did he lose everything in the past 20 months? Maybe if he was having problems before then he thought Trump might be able to help the economy? Which it actually is better than before. But your father having no money is no fault of Trump or Obama.

Sexual abuse/crime is a very emotional subject and we all must do better to help those that are victims of it.

Having your car stolen and being raped do not remotely have the same impact on your life. Go to one meeting with a roomful of women who have been raped and listen to their stories. You could care less what a rape survivor goes through emotionally. You can speak to me on this issue when you have gone thru having a rape kit done, when you are terrified to close your eyes or go to sleep in your own home because the rapist has told you he will come back and kill you. When you have a man telling you how easy it would be to break your neck as he is raping you.

Your posts last Saturday night told me exactly how you REALLY feel. For someone who claims to have been a victim of sexual assault as a child, you lack empathy and compassion for other women.

A judge who is about to be confirmed to the Supreme Court should not need to write an apology for how he acted at a hearing.

I worry very much for women who have recently been raped. I had a loving family, great friends and a job with wonderful insurance. Many women are not lucky enough to have all this. If there were days I thought it would be a great relief to go to sleep and not wake up and feel this pain for another day, I know many of these women may feel the same way and may act on those thoughts. I didn’t have to listen to the president mock a woman who had been sexual assaulted when I was trying to heal. I can only imagine how those words would have felt while my body was covered in bruises from being raped and my mind was telling me I was damaged because of what a man had done to me.

I can’t imagine watching everything that happened and was said this past week while dealing with the raw emotion of a recent sexual assault.

You are quite capable of making your thoughts and feelings forcefully known during discussions so I take you at your words and challenge some of the things you say. Trump has dismantled nearly every health, environmental, and occupational safety regulation that Obama and others before Obama enacted. Getting rid of those regulations has made life better for the rich and probably even made life better for some of the middle class and working poor because less regulation may create job growth. However, the cost for job growth under those deregulations is high and will lead to many health and environmental issues that will impact everyone. So perhaps that's why trump supporters see him as a savior even though voting for trump was the same as voting against one's long term self-interests. People tend to think only of the short-term. Under that scenario, things were better under Obama as far as overall safety and concern for all people.

Too much government spending affects everyone which is why the current Congress effed up by spending like we can afford it instead of cutting.

"Someone" in the past rightly said - it's the economy stupid.

We'll see how it all pans out next month.

Why is everyone acting like this was a trial? There are BETTER JUDGES TO CHOOSE FROM. Judges that haven't been tied to sexual assault allegations. Unless anything can be proven no one is going to jail or losing their livelihood. He's not entitled to serve on the SCOTUS, it's an honor that must be given to someone with an impeccable track record!

And one that can keep his cool and look at things in an unbiased manner.... He could have had the life of a monk and would still fail miserably at those qualifications.

It really does make one wonder just why they are clinging to this one. There are hidden reasons, no doubt.

I do have to correct you.

I meant that you had posted a non-mainstream view and that when someone did that without being uncivil or engaging in hate speech that the poster challenged others on the board to think. I certainly hope that at least from time to time my postings are not so mundane as to lull my readers to sleep! Provoking others to think is, I believe, a good thing. I would like to be considered someone who, at least once in a while, had a thought or read a source that was not "mainstream"!

Does it really Deb? I am asking in all sincerity. Because in the past, long ago, I have posted many links to non-mainstream views. And I can say without a doubt, it didn't make anyone think, at least not anything good. Those ideas/commentaries were dismissed, ridiculed, laughed at and torn apart. And it was not because of my temperament. I think you would be hard pressed to find a post where I was being nasty or antagonistic, or using hate speech.

I'd like to think what you said here is true, but in my heart of hearts, I don't. But one can hope....

Aside from the benefits of Kavanaugh probably ruling on issues that benefit Trump in the investigations that are ongoing, I also think Trump knows his confirmation will further divide our country. Dividing our country and the constant chaos he causes is what Trump thrives on. Apparently half our country is fine with watching him tear groups of people down, do irreparable emotional damage to children and their families apart, publically speak terribly about women and anyone who isn’t white.

Kavanaugh’s partisan rant (that he wrote and read out loud) showed us he has no business receiving the honor of begin on the Supreme Court. IKavanaugh was not truthful when speaking of his younger days. He made the choice to not be honest and truthful. He showed the country his temperament. 2,000 law professors haven’t come forward to say he is unfit for this position, because he conducts himself in an exemplary light.

The republicans could have dropped the Kavanaugh nomination and picked another person who has the temperament for the job. Their are plenty of other judges who are non partisan and honest.

I think that is one thing that we can both agree on, government needs to be more responsible in their spending.
