I was just wondering what people''s plans are for valentines and more specifically for valentine''s day dinner? Are you going out? Cooking? What''s your menu?

It''s our first married valentines and I have most of the day off, so I thought I would make hubby the sort guy''s dinner he''d love but that I usually never have the time (or inclination) to make. I haven''t worked out all the details of the menu yet but the main dish will be roast pork with apple & cornbread stuffing. I''m thinking maybe mashed potatoes, maybe something involving green beans and shallots with champagne vinegar or some apple walnut butter lettuce salad. Dessert will be either something fun from the market or some kind of white chocolate sorbet or custard. (dh loves white chocolate)

So what about you?

Sushi Sushi Sushi Sushi Sushi!!!!!!

And he wont eat sushi, but they always have a steak on the menu for those sushi haters!

Man, I''m spoiled!

Well, I hate crowds and we''d planned on going out, so we''re going out tomorrow, for Spanish food!

Outback Steakhouse...We both LOVE steak, Yumm!! We would have gone a little nicer and headed to Chart House on the Gulf, but we went a few weeks ago (AMAZING!!) and we need to get home early. We will be spending tonight packing, for our trips this weekend... myself to Chicago and Chris is headed to The Daytona 500, in Florida.

Pizza, I think?

carryout from our favorite place, to be eaten at home while we do laundry together... sigh... we''re going on a weekend getaway, so we need to do laundry! That''s romantic, right? Maybe I''ll pick up some cannoli at the train station on the way home...

I''m cookin'', like most other nights

Thinking about either pan-seared scallops with butternut squash risotto or grilled sage-chive steaks with turkey bacon potato skins

YUM!

We used to go out for Valentine''s Day, but I am so incredibly OVER expensive fixed menus that force you to eat oysters

eewwww

I think hubby''s getting me some kind of take out. He just doesn''t know it yet.

We''re going to Yamamori which is a japanese restaurant so sushi for starters and not sure what for our main yet-cannot wait! This is one of our favourite restaurants

Having some pasta and reading up on how to conduct semi-structured interviews while J is 200 miles away, spending the day with his platonic life partner.

And he wonders why strangers assume he and his best friend are a gay couple when they hang out together on Valentine's Day!

I''m making burritos, quesadillas and jicama.

FI is in Seattle all week for work so I''m going to be hangin with the dog tonight. I might order a pizza for us to share (I know, I''m a bad mom but he LOVES pizza!). Oh, and I have to go to the mall to visit my friend "Victoria" and look for a vday gift for fi. I''ve already gotten him a card and some Vosges brownies, but I want to get him something else that we''ll both enjoy. From him I''ve gotten 2 dzn roses here at the office and I think I have a new Northface jacket coming as well...

Italian--mmmm and wine!

Congratulations on your first married Valentine's Day! (mine too

It''s post-dinner now (almost 9:30pm here), but I wanted to share--two of my best friends here at grad school just knocked on my door and surprised me with a plate full of strawberries, banana slices and popcorn drizzled in chocolate they melted themselves! They said they knew it might suck to be close-but-not-together with J today (we are 200 miles apart), so they thought they''d do something special for me!!

Going out to a local restaurant for dinner.

Any excuse not to bother with cooking or cleaning up afterwards. The reality will kick in again tomorrow but enjoy it while you can.

Happy Valentine''s Day to everyone!

Heather

I loved Yamamori! But as it is 2,000 miles from where I am, we are cooking.

We are having ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms and mascapone cheese with garlic alfredo sauce. For desert, we each bought an artisan desert of our choice from the store.

We already had our V-day dinner on Tuesday (we went out for sushi and tempura!), so tonight he''s picking up dessert and we''re ordering Thai delivery! Yum for pad thai!!

I am cooking him his favorite dinner, gave him his favorite cologne

We stopped going out on V-Day years ago. Staying home is so much simpler.
I will have appetizers ready and champagne when he walks in.

He gave me a gift certificate last weekend to fill up a Pandora/Troll bracelet,
and I did! (so much fun!) He also gave me a sterling heart shape dish. He also
had a small box of rose scented bath soap "leaves". Very sweet.

We didn''t do anything

We have been married 10 years, and DH has NEVER cooked. He made us crab cakes (from scratch). And he made heart shaped grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids. Very sweet. Also brought home roses for me and stuffed animals for each of the kids.

Well I''ve been unsuccessfully battling this evil flu all week long...today I woke up again with a 101.5 temp so we cancelled our dinner ressies for tonite...I was so sad. Spent most of the day sleeping as usual.

Greg is picking us up lobstah rolls from this fab Maine transplant lobster shack place we love on his way home...so it''ll be lobstah rolls on the couch with some bad reality TV for us...oh and some primo choco covered strawberries I got yesterday during 30 minutes of lucidity

Ah well!! We''ve never had a Vday like this but it''s kind of liberating. Though I am sad about missing out on my fab filet medallions and whiskey caramel bread pudding...

. We love this place we were going to, and it''s got a great vibe, would have been fun to see it during Vday craziness.

Have a great evening everyone, Happy Vday and take your airborne!!

Sorry you are sick Mara. I have been sick for the past 12 days, yup been counting. Nan has been sick along with me, funny that we had the exact same thing. I hope you enjoy the lobster rolls, they sound yummy. Next year I am getting a flu shot, no doubts about it. And hear ya on the airborne.

my hubby is working and my 5 year old has the lovely flu that seems to be going around, poor little thing. So my 4 year old and I had peanutbutter sandwiches for dinner..it doesn't get any better in her world...

sorry you are still sick mara and you too kaleigh and sevens...my hubby just got over it after it lasted almost a week. not fun at all. i must say, i've never gotten a flu shot before, but did this year under my dr's recommendation and boy and I glad I did...

thanks ladies!! aww nan and kaleigh hope you guys continue to feel better. being sick sucks!

and it''s ironic because we don''t typically get the flu nor do we get shots. we might get like one cold a year. but this year...it''s all about the flu. also i have heard that there are multiple strains and the shot only guards against something like 2 of them. apparently also this one that i have is really nasty which is just fab. oh well, i guess we were due. greg got it as well but not as badly as me...i guess i am just run down from 2 trips back to back (one for work, one for fun but stressful traveling) and then not really letting up on my workout schedule etc. this is forced rest for me!!

mmm mrs salvo i love me a PB sandie as well. hehee. lobster roll comes in close 2nd for best vday dinner.

DH & I took the kids out to dinner at Friendly''s...not very romantic, but at least the kids behaved!
