Hey, Folks:

I''m newly engaged and happy beyond my wildest dreams.

My fiance purchased a great three-stone emerald cut ring from Costco after he and I did a ton of research. The diamonds are so beautiful (F and G, VS1 with GIA cert on center 1.17 ct stone), and I want to reset them into a very simple platinum band - something as delicate as possible. Can anyone tell me what I should expect to pay? And does anyone know a good jeweler in the SF Bay Area (east bay preferred) who could do this for a fair price?

I think you should budget in the $2000 range for diamonds that good. That puts you in the range of the quality custom made settings.

If you find something pre-made that you like, then that is good, you save yourself a thousand, but I would not advise you to try and save money on a ring with diamonds as good as that. Quality varies enormously and you need to find someone who has the skills to do the job right.

Must be a lot of good jewellers in SF. I hope someone can help you with that.

Hope this helps,

Phillip

I just had an eternity band reset from 14k gold to Platinum. 24, 10 point stones, hand done. It cost $900.

PS your ring sounds beautiful. You should post in SMTR!

Thank you both!

And I''m looking forward to sharing the ring with everyone in the SMTR section - "she''s" at the jewelers right now getting resized and is due back on Friday. (talk about a loooong week)

Smiles! Mary
