What color accent stones go well with demantoid?

Hello Pricescope - this is my first post! I am in the process of purchasing this 0.6 carat demantoid from Andrew at Gemfix, and would like to set it in a ring. I haven''t fully decided on a setting yet, but was considering the use of light brown diamonds as melee. I''m a big fan of the variety of stones and colors featured in antique jewelry, and have looked to gain inspiration from those types of settings. Does anybody have any suggestions on light brown diamonds as accent stones, or any other color accent stones that may compliment the grass green color of demantoid? Thanks in advance!

Here is one of the antique settings from which I am drawing inspiration. It''s a Belle Epoque brooch that I hope to own one day

I like pinks, yellows, and blues but my taste can be quite different from the norm.

Yeah, my taste is unconventional as well. It does make things more difficult sometimes!

I was afraid that pink with the bright green might look too watermelon-y. I''d like to go with a classic combination that I won''t get tired in years to come, which is why I''m leaning towards the light or dark brown diamonds. It will hopefully give the whole ring a more "earthy" look.

Here is a ring from Fay Cullen that I may replicate, except in yellow gold with the light & dark brown diamonds. So jealous of the person who actually owns this ring!

Oops, forgot to credit the picture of the brooch. I found that picture on goantiques.com, and it''s being sold by Kensington House Antiques.

I wouldn't do brown, but Amethyst? sure!! Chrystoberyl? Absolutely! Maybe even a blue stone (take your pick there...lol) Then of course there's green and orange but I don't know how much mileage you'd get out of that.

Red may end up being christmassy unless you did a ring like you showed and all the other stones were red. (hmmmm...I'd wear that!)

A darker green?

I think champagne diamonds would be really pretty.

Thanks for all of the helpful feedback so far! I will definitely post a pic once I''ve set my ring. I may opt for a cheaper setting - an LOGR or lan.bo, which would be a quarter of what I''d pay for custom made, but we''ll see. Sometimes by quest for uniqueness overrides my sense of prudence

I think demantoid looks great with pink accents. Rose gold always seems to make them pop as well. That stone has a strong enough green where yellow might accent it well . Purple done right will look pretty as well.

Id just stay away from blue

How about using pink gold, then? It will help the demantoid pop and diamond pave looks yummy in rose gold.

@ TakingthePlunge and Lady_Disdain: I agree. I was definitely considering rose gold after seeing the thread entitled "White gold or yellow for demantoid". I only worry about the variability of color with rose gold; sometimes it looks more coppery than I''d prefer. White gold is my default because it''s safe. Does anyone have a picture of a demantoid that they set in rose gold? Thanks again.

@ TakingthePlunge: Thanks for the suggestion on purple and green. Watching years of children''s programming with my little cousins has warped my brain into thinking of Barney the dinosaur whenever I see the purple/green color combo. It really is unfortunate...

Great ideas everyone, keep them coming! If anyone has pics, that would help me greatly. I wish I knew how to use Photoshop...

I love the idea of demantoid set in rose gold with diamond accents. I agree that you would be wise to avoid the more coppery rose gold. BGD seems to have nice rose gold, and Whiteflash might as well, though I''ve never seen them in person (sorry!).

Please post pics of your stone when you receive it and best of luck on your quest!

Hopefully I''ll have real pictures soon enough this project is in progress. This is a sketch from Julia on etsy. I''m setting my spinel and demantoids in rose gold bezels. I went with the second sketch.

brandy_z28 - those pictures look fabulous! I''m sure it will look even better in real life! What is Julia''s Etsy seller name?

juliakaytaylor - and she''s the BEST! I''m on my 3rd project from her right now.

I''d do yellow diamonds.

Lilac?

I agree, lilac, purple, pink, hot pink and fuchsia would be my top pics. I''d love to see rose gold and hot pink. Aqua blue might be yummy too...

Thanks again everyone! Still haven''t received my demantoid because of the 3-day weekend...

If the horsetails in the stone greatly affect the dispersion, I may decide to return it.

Will keep everyone posted - thanks for your interest!

I might be using blue sapphire with mine.

I think colors that might work with it are yellow, red and purple.

@ Harriet: Ooh, I''d love to see how that turns out! Just curious, what color gold are you setting it in?

Will be getting my stone tomorrow - had it sent to my parent''s house so that the delivery wouldn''t be missed. Can''t wait!

Update: I''ll be returning the demantoid. I thought that the horsetail inclusions interfered too much with the brilliance. Will probably opt for a lighter stone with a stronger display of dispersion. The hunt continues!
