What colored stones look most flattering as cushion shaped?

Chrono''s spinels have inspired daydreams of finding beautiful colored cushion cut stones.

I''m curious which colored stones look best as cushions? Is it easy to find matching pairs?

My color change sapphire is a cushion. I love the cushion shape! I think most gems look good as cushions unlike asschers which should be lighter colored in order to see the steps. I''ve never looked for a matching set so I really can''t say. Here is a pic of my color change in one of it''s more purple moods.

Catmom - your ring is beautiful and I love the setting. . . ideally, my RHR would look identical to yours! lol I wish I could get diamond pave, but if I go with a ring, it''ll be a plain setting.

Suddenly colored stones have struck my fancy. Diamonds on a grand scale are so passé

They are gorgeous! Small ones are great for a pendant or halo style rings!

Both of Dan''s stones are lovely but too dark. I would look for something lighter and brighter.

I am very flattered. Just about all coloured stones look great as cushion cuts. The difficulty of finding matching pairs depends on:
1. How picky you are on them being absolutely identical in size and colour and cut
2. Rarity of gemstone
3. Size (easier to find smaller pairs)

I am really liking cushions at the moment in pretty much every stone. It seems to give good body colour and sparkle/scintillation in coloured stones. I think Tsav and other garnets look great in a well cut cushion.

As an aside I have bought the Sapph that Wen posted up. I think it''s important to note the budget vs desire compromise. If you want to buy top colour in sapphire you pay for it. On balance I preferred a darker stone rather than going to the more washed out grades on the other side of the best colours to stick within my budget. I certainly would have liked to buy a sapphire like some of the great cornflower blues etc we see posted here but the price per carat is well in excess of what I could afford in all but the teensiest stones. Price rarely gets discussed here for obvious privacy reasons but I would bet the house on it being the #1 factor in what you look at when buying a luxury item like a gemstone. Just thought I would explain my reasoning. (Not trying to have a go at you Chrono

Ok pieface that was not fair but you must now show pictures when that baby is set. I personally like darker sapphires but not so dark they look black. My favorite is ones that have a purple flash but hey we all have our own idea of what works for us. Chrono I really love to hear you opinion on anything before making a decision, Thanks! Ow my priorities, I want that stone! Perfect shape to but I will have to pass sadly. I did see that spessarite garnet also but it is a little small what would I do with that! Hmmmm I really need to find a different web site, my husband thinks you are all a bad influence on me

I think I''d like to get a stone for a RHR. First earrings sounded great, but now a ring may be a better choice since I don''t have to find matching stones.
