What do you guys think of this?

I like her newest choice better because it has just a center stone with one halo plus it is a higher weight. It looks less like a cluster of tiny stones than the other. You can't beat the price and if they ever decide to buy another ring, this one can be a RHR. I think it is a great choice and will be a terrific price!

ITA with DS - I really like it, it's very pretty - This one gets my vote!

Thanks so much guys! You are the best.

I truly appreciate all your comments and suggestions and passed them on to her. Niel, you should seriously turn diamond shopping into a full-time paying job, lol.

She said no to the 5 stone band, as she said she thought "no one will know it's an engagement ring." She loves all the James Allen preset halos. She also likes this one too:

I am secretly not a big fan of the princess cuts, but we were reading the descriptions and it appears that one has MORE total carat weight for less money than the first ring (as a reminder it's http://www.jamesallen.com/preset-engagement-rings/royal-halo/james-allen-cushion-shape-classic-cupcake-engagement-ring-item-36164).

It looks like the one with the princess cuts is 1.4 ctw while the original one we found is 0.92 ctw. Seems odd that the 1.4 ctw is cheaper. She said she narrowed it down to those two and would love your opinions. I will pass them along to her and I will send her here to post pics of her ring when she gets engaged because you know we all love bling pics! :naughty:

You know what? Not everyone is going to be able to pull off the rings we see here on PS. I think those JA rings are perfect for a particular buyer who really wants the appearance of size but has a limited budget.

Yes, I agree with you DS. A lot of PSers can basically afford anything they want, but right now I think these types of rings make the most sense for them, even though they aren't very popular here. They both have a ton of student loans to pay off and a new house, and they will eventually be well off in their chosen careers. The time will come for her to have a huge rock (and for me to be jealous lol :naughty: ) Honestly, I do not like the princess cuts, but she seems to love that one, so I didn't want to burst her bubble.

Yep, when you said she "loved" these, then that is what counts. I would be confident in James Allen's quality and would never recommend some cheap I1 ring like this we might see on ebay or at a mall store. So I think the quality is very nice for what it is, and if she loves it, I wouldn't discourage her. Many of us would rather have a .40 solitaire in a plain 4 prong setting, but I can see the appeal of this one for someone else.

I'm tempted to buy it if your friend doesn't like it :naughty: It's cut a little deep, but cannot resist a thin 8 main modern cushion.

I think if she truly likes these types of rings then she'll be fine. To Niel's point though, if she's thinking of getting a ring w/ the cluster look but she'd prefer the look of a single center stone and feels as though she's "settling" in some way, then she might be really disappointed after wearing it for a little while. I have a friend who's dealing w/ this exact issue - she's about to celebrate her 10th anniversary and STILL complains about her e-ring (6 small princess cut stones set in the shape of an EC stone) because it doesn't have the look she really wanted initially.

Please let us know what your friend finally decides and share pictures okay? It's such an exciting time for her and if she loves it, I love it for her :)) !!

Just wanted to thank everyone and update you all since you all were so helpful. My friend ordered the JA preset halo with the princess cuts before the sale ended so she got the 20% off. The ring came and she loves it! And of course I told her I just had to take a pic of her beautiful e-ring! Personally, I think she got a real steal as this ring was only $1200 something, and I was impressed with the JA workmanship. From a distance, you can't tell it's a cluster. I don't know if this JA Royal Halo line is new or what, but I think they're a nice option for a young couple on a budget.

For the budget I actually like it. Looks like a lovely ring. This style isn't for everyone but if she loves it that's all that really matters. Are those larger melee stones in the corners? All the center stones look round is that right? In staring at my phone so it's a little hard to tell.

Great deal for that price!

Well that's fabulous that she loves it! Worked out well.

Oooh that's really pretty! And what a great price, looks like it costs more IMHO - so so glad she's happy! :appl:

Laila, I had to come back to see if you'd provided an update and I saw the picture of your friend's ring. It looks beautiful and I'm so glad she found something that she really loves!!! Thanks for sharing this pic w/ us and give her our congratulations. :wavey:
