What do you think about this 18k Unheated Ruby Ring?

I've been searching for a super red ruby with as little purple and pink as possible. I generally don't have a strong opinion about heated vs unheated but I'll confess that a part of me loves the natural aspect of an unheated ruby (though my wallet doesn't like the price). With all that said, I found this ring and I can't stop staring at it. It's from a reputable local store and the ruby has an AGL Lab report. I was originally planning to get a small, more affordable ruby and have it set by DK but now I'm reconsidering.

I'd love everyone's input on the cut, color, and anything else you notice. The ruby is 1.03cts and the setting is 18k gold with F-G/VS diamonds. What do you all think of the ruby and the setting? What sort of pricing would you expect to see? Would around $4500 be reasonable or overpriced? Thanks all!

I do see pink in the 2nd and 6th (3rd from bottom) pictures.

If it comes with a legit AGL report, then I'd say $4500 is a reasonable price, assuming no clarity treatment.

I think it's telling that you can't stop staring at the ring. You should get it then!

It is gorgeous. I see pink and purple in the ruby, but that is also my personal preference. I will leave the ruby experts to guide you on pricing.

Thanks all! I'm getting the AGL and then will share. Does anyone know if that's a "normal" amount of extinction? I can't tell if it's the photos or the cut... or if it's just too much in general

are these your pictures then? whats on your monitor ( and I know your monitor will be different than mine) is similar to what you see naked eye and that’s the little pink /little purple you are going for?

my phone camera will sometimes read more pink or purple in my ruby than what the naked eye sees. So it’s hard to go off of pics.
I love it best when it has a tad of orange (gasp - the horror!) to it in certain lighting and pictures never come out that way.

As for extinction in a oval, I dont think many are cut to specifically minimize that.

Unless you get a ruby with a notable amount of silk or a concave cut, extinction is unavoidable, and I don't think that your ruby looks to have too much extinction. Light source and direction can matter too, so make sure to view under good lighting to assess, because bad lighting doesn't count.



Same stone, same bathroom. First pic is under weak artificial light, second pic is by bathroom window, so some natural light seeping in. I see more extinction in the first picture even though it's the same stone.

Thanks all! I have similar concerns -- not sure the color is quite right and seeing a picture straight down would help. I should be getting more pics and the lab report today or tomorrow so I'll see if it's worth looking at IRL. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the input!
