After @Gemobsessed has posted a thread about a Malaya garnet, I’ve begun to browse the vendors for a nice dusty rose colored stone. I was also inspired by the picture @Confection10 has posted, where she has on her pinky an Ivy and Rose setting with a Malaya garnet. It was love at first sight!!
I know , some of you might think, I have just bought a zircon and an umbalite garnet, I should set them first, but this mahenge is just calling my name. It’s only 6 mm and quite cheap.
I wouldn’t like to tell the vendor, but I have 2 pictures:
First one is in fluorescent lightning

Second one is in natural daylight according to the vendor

I would set it in this setting, which fits exactly a 6 mm stone:

What do you think, is this garnet going to be a nice one?

And I know, someone has a similar ring - I mean a pink stone in the same setting - I just can’t find it.

If you love it in the pictures, and can swing it, I'd get it and see it in person. That material shifts a bit in different lighting. And if you love it in person, then I think that setting would be great. :) By the way, that vendor has a good return policy, so you should be fine there, if needed.

It’s gorgeous but I really suggest you ask the vendor to put it on hold for you. They are recognizable by the pics.

It will be lovely ! Hope you buy it :)

@SparkliesLuver - thank you for your opinion. Unfortunately a return won't be an option for me, because I'm located in Europe, and I won't take the hassle of a return after custom clearance.

By the way, how do you know, who is the vendor? I've adjusted the pictures to a size, that you can't see nothing. You have really good eyes!!

I recognise their cutting and they have the same background and on few pics the hand shots look exactly the same. I’ve seen them because they are really well known for a particular type of gem. It is a really good price! You should get it :) just be okay with unexpected shifts in colour. That can happen. I’ve owned many garnets and no way to avoid it. This colour is still super coveted so that’s a good sign.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion I am hopelessly no help when it comes to advising about gemstones, because I seem to love them all! I think it's a beautiful stone and a gorgeous color dkata, and I say go for it! I think it will look so pretty in that halo setting.

Beautiful gem and setting! I love Mahenge garnets, Jeff Davies had one on his site I was looking at that has since sold. This color is lovely! Did you get it?

Beautiful!!

All of you are enablers! It's just awful! :) I have bought it! "Happy Dance"!!

So, I don't know, if you all were right, but the stone is from Earthstreasury! I'm sure, all of you are browsing "too much" colored stone vendors, if you recognize the background! :)

They describe it as padparadscha, but this is not what convinced me, but only the color what I see. I'm really curious, how it is going to look, and I really would like to see the color shift.

Woohoo! Sorry but we are all too willing to spend your money
Post pics when you get it!

Fortunately it was not too expensive, only 185$. The shipping was much worse to Europe, 45$!!
It’s incredible, how much money I have spent on shipping costs last year!!

Oh dear I try not to count that! I feel terrible about it. I don’t even calculate or budget it anymore because when I put it together I feel I could have bought another gem in that much!

I chimed in too late to help you decide but, like @junebug17 , I am no help when it comes to gems because I want and love them all. :lol-2: I'm still excited to see you ordered it and I can't wait to see what you think about it in person.

BTW, I love that Ivy and Rose setting. It's actually on my list for when I one day manage to buy a gem in a freaking calibrated size. :confused2::lol:

Thank you for the encouragement! Sometimes I think I buy too much, but on the other hand these are not expensive gems.

Regarding calibrated size this time I really took care to choose a stone with calibrated size, and this garnet is 6 mm!! Perfect! I have already two gems, which are going to need custom settings, the 6.66*6.66 mm asscher zircon surely, and I’m going to meet the jeweler for this project only in April. I don’t make mistakes twice, and I want to enjoy the Mahenge Garnet sooner.

I’ve got the garnet on Friday, and today I have snapped a few pictures.

The first few were shot in a hotel with very good lightning:

Then a few at home under LED lamp. I like the color here the most:

I think the last picture is the most similar to Jeff’s pictures, although I see the most what you can see on the very first picture, so it’s more pink than peach, and I was after this color.

I like it, and can’t wait to see it in sunlight.

Its a beauty!!:love::love: I also like the setting posted. I adore the setting posted, but I can see this stone being set as a solitare too. (rare for me to say that considering I'd halo just about anything...lol)

Thanks for posting the pics. It's very nice! I too like the peachy color better. But the purply side of it is pretty as well!

This stone could be really set in a solitaire, because the color is really nice, but it would be too small for me! =)2 Therefore I need a halo! I love solitaires, but only above 8 mm. I’m a spoiled, very bad girl!:D

Looks really nice!

HI:

Very pretty!

cheers--Sharon

Wow it looks better in your pics than it did on the website! Amazing colour and dispersion these stones have. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

Really nice garnet. It's got three things really going for it:

It isn't dark like most reddish family garnets.
It doesn't go brown.
It's really well cut.

Thank you!

I’m not an expert, but I have seen on the vendor pictures, that this stone would be stunning. It means a lot to me, that you like it too.

There is a bigger brilliant cut stone in this color, but I didn’t wanted to spend that much.
