What do you think is the perfect size for a diamond pendant?

One of my favorite pieces is my WF pendant. It is tiny, but the ACAs make it stand out. I wear it 24/7. I guess my point would be that diamonds do not have to be large to have an impact.

This is pretty and the statement is true too! Do you have a neck shot by chance?

Is that close enough? My iphone is not loving my attempts to make it focus closer than that o_O

This is lovely and it looks great on you. Did you just get use to the poking meaning you don't feel it? Or do you feel it and it no longer bothers you? Two different things I know. I do consider this to be on the larger side for a fixed bezel for comfort reasons which is why I am asking.

It stopped hurting me. I didn’t realize the back would look like that (I am such a bad jewelry buyer in that we did it in person and it didn’t even occur to me to ask questions about what the setting would look like outside of the fact that I said I wanted 18 karat yellow gold and millgrain). So it came, and I put it on, and I was like ouch! But within a day or two it stopped hurting me. I don’t even feel it now. I seriously do not know if I am wearing it until I touch my neck. It’s weird. I must have a callus* on my neck/chest now or something.

It’s so beautiful!!i wish I would have seen your setting before so I would set my diamond same way!!!

I have a .80 diamond in a milgrain bezel and I just never wore it because it looked too small in proportion to my e-ring diamond. So with the size of your e-ring diamond, I'd probably go with about 1.5 cts or so (but at least visually larger than your studs). m-2-b went proportionally with her new pendant diamond being in between the size of her studs and e-ring diamond(s).

That’s an interesting thought. I was planning on smaller than my studs, as more time/attention is given face-to-face so focused the money and size on the ears and wanted the necklace to be just a little extra bling (vs attention-getting on its own).

It's really just personal preference...hard to go wrong with any size diamond! I'm going to reset my .80 maybe with a halo to make it a little more visible.

I think people may focus more on the neck region, especially if your hair obscures your earlobes like mine does. I agree with DS that I would have your pendant be proportionate and slightly bigger than your studs.

Hmmm... my reasonably priced project just doubled its budget needs! Good thing I’m looking at vendors with excellent upgrade policies :mrgreen2:

@ILikeShiny What size in mm if your halo'ed special occasion pendant now? And how'd you like the size of your bezeled 0.66ct as an everyday pendant?

My Tiffany DBTW is a also "tiny" at under 40 points but I love it and would not wear anything larger. It sparkles like mad and I love the style so that is all that is important to "me".

Good questions. I don’t know the mm size, but here’s a photo; the center diamond is what I used to wear on its own.

I really liked the size of my .66 diamond when worn on its own. I’m just questioning the size now since I have the chance to actually choose something (vs. inherit it)!

I have two I wear regularly (my go to is actually a Faberge egg) a 1.07 oval set E/W and a 2.24 RB which has pears sides. I have others but those two see the most wear.

Ermmmm it depends on how wide you are (shoulder to shoulder) and your "girls" - how high/low they are set on you and how full they are.

I think OP can go as big as her budget let's her.

I mean an “everyday wear” kind of pendant, not one for special occasions.

Any photos to share would be appreciated. As would opinions on fixed vs sliding pendant design.

I changed my .66ct bezeled pendant into a larger, halo’d pendant that is more suited for special occasions and I’m toying with getting a replacement “everyday” pendant but not sure what size to get. I’m thinking between .75-.9ish carat, but wonder if that might be too large?

I have not yet read this thread, but I own and have never worn a .75 carat Whiteflash diamond pendant. I bought it for my daughter's 16th birthday but never gave it to her because she cut up jewelry and pushed it down the drain. Including a gold charm bracelet I had had painstakingly made for her and Tiffany 18K gold pieces. I have considered selling it. It was made especially for me with a special bail because I didn't want mine attached to the chain.

What I wear when I want to wear a pendant is a stone that is over 2 carats. I had it made into a pendant when i went through a (short-lived) phase when I was too embarrassed to wear a stone "that big" as a ring. Now I only wish I could afford a 3 carat ring with the specs I want, but I cannot!

Deb/AGBF

PS-I just noticed that someone wrote above that she wouldn't wear a pendant larger than her e-ring. Maybe she meant for everyday? My usual solitaire is 1.67 carats. I am comfortable in that. The over 2 carat stone at one point felt too big on my hand. (I know, I was crazy.) But it felt fine as a pendant to me. In fact, it is bezeled and I wear it with 18K gold wires at times as it is set on wire.

I found an old thread about the first pendant I mentioned. It sounds like quite a nice stone. I didn't even remember that when I first bought it I had not decided that it would be only a gift for my daughter! Apparently I considered wearing it. But I never wore it. Nor did she. On her 16th birthday I gave her an opal ring with an opal I bought through a Pricescope vendor and she lost it within the first two days. I was heartbroken.

Deb, I’m so sorry for the heartache with your daughter. I vote you trade in the smaller pendant and your 2 carat pendant and get that 3 carat honker you want :mrgreen2:

Broad shouldered and full-chested. I could carry a 3-carat stone but don’t think my wallet could :rolleyes2:

Deb, I am so sorry. I know it's sad that your daughter cannot share in your love for jewelry. But I know that's minor compared to the overall situation. {{{hugs}}}

I think it's fine to wear the 2 ct pendant with the 1.67 diamond ring. Many people would reverse those, but I do get the reason you did it. It took me a long time to wear a diamond over 2 cts for my e-ring!

Ooo pretty! Thank you for sharing this pic. I like the milgrain frame (?) around the halo....gives it nice extra touch.

Since your intention is for an everyday pendant and you were happy with the size of your 0.66ct diamond, if it were me, I would probably keep to something within that range (upping it to 0.90ct if your budget allows). My thinking is, you'll probably pick a diamond with better Cs than your inherited stone, so that alone should help the diamond look bigger and brighter.

I am toying with the idea of setting my mum's 1.8ct approx. MRB as a pendant, however a simple solitaire will not do as it will disappear around my big fat neck. :rolleyes2:

Most likely to be a bezel with a band of metal in the middle to make the setting bigger in diameter.

DK :))

I’m odd that I prefer a smaller diamond on a pendant. Mine is a Tiffany prong set .75 and a little fireball...I have no desire to go bigger..My earrings are twice the size for each stud and my engagement ring bigger than that and I think it’s the perfect size..

This is a sweet size too. Remind me where you got your little butterfly ring?
Tous! I think the total ctw is something like <0.03  impressive how they spread it out though! I don't think most of my daily wear is up to pricescoper standards, I just really value comfort which means my tiny pieces get worn way more. I loveee shiny things but I also hatee heavy things. Sigh. I wish I worked with one of you ladies so I could enjoy the sparklies everyday without actually wearing any! :twisted2:

Anyway, hope you find your goldilocks size, and take lots of pictures and report back!

BTW, not sure if we're allowed to link off-site (mods please edit if not), but in this thread at the bottom of the page is a GREAT reference from littlehomerun modeling a 0.35ct, 1ct, and 1.60ct DBTY:

This is a gorgeous stone. Hope you wear it Deb.

I've got HPD putting together a video for me of five diamonds, ranging from .60 to .72, and should be seeing it tomorrow. I think that will be the sweet spot for the size I want right now. Thanks for all of your input!

Oooh, that is exciting!!

Ok! For anyone following along with this journey, here are the stones I've narrowed it down to! We started with a video of five diamonds lined up and, from there, I chose these three to see close-ups of. I have no idea which stone is which as I asked to do this test blind; for your reference, the five diamonds I started with ranged from E-G color, VS2-SI1 clarity, and .60-.72 carat weight.

Diamond #1 - http://handshake2.jivesystems.com/videos/hrxnv8kofg?tag=131162
Diamod #4 - http://handshake2.jivesystems.com/videos/ct56g7f8hm?tag=131162
Diamond #5 - http://handshake2.jivesystems.com/videos/sznujuserr?tag=131162

Which would you choose? I've pretty much made up my mind and I'm curious to see if it aligns with the consensus here :mrgreen2:

(Btw, it's been an awesome experience with HPD so far. I'll do a full write-up once I have the completed pendant in hand)
