Ellen,

I hope you can find a quote that matches what you''d like to spend. Any chance of looking through the Stuller catalogs to see if there are stock items that would work and cut the cost down?
Thanks FG. It really is bumming me out that this may not be doable right now. We just have so many other expenses, and honestly, I don''t think the ringing of the cash register has cleared from hubby''s head on the ring and studs from last year.... So I just can''t spend much right now.

I could certainly look through Stuller''s stuff, can''t hurt.

I wonder, if my local guy even does custom stuff (I just started using him, so I don''t know), would it maybe cost any less?
Well I can certainly relate to that! But I had hoped you would be able to go ahead with this. But if you just do all the planning and looking around that''s a way to work on the project without spending any money. Then when money becomes available you''ll have all of the first project steps done and be able to move forward quickly.

I think it''s worth talking to your local guy about custom stuff.

As for stuller I did notice that they have bezel settings in OVAL not just round. They really do make alot of different things, so take a look at them and see if you can find what you have in your head.

FireGoddess -- I just LOVE LOVE LOVE everything you''re posting. Thank you for looking and posting your fabulous finds. They really can give us great ideas.

Yes, I agree that I should get everything done that I can. And I haven''t given up yet, working on another quote. I''m hoping the first was just abnormally high. One can hope anyway...

I went to Stuller and actually found something similar! I don''t care for this one, and my design is simpler and sleeker, but at least I have a picture now to say this is basic idea.

FG, thanks for pointing me there!

Glad to help anyone find jewelry inspiration, DKS and Stone Hunter!

Ellen!!! So glad my Stuller suggestion may help you in some way!!! I see where you''re going with the pendant and it''s really beautiful. I hope it can work out within your budget. Are you a fan at all of satin finishing? I think your stone could CRAZEEEE pop with a satin finish to the metal bezel - like Wallermama''s asscher did once she applied the finish to her band.

FG, I actually had entertained the thought of a satin finish....

Now, the reason why I had kind of dismissed it was, I tend to be rather matchy, it''s just IN me.
9.gif
However, I would like to break out of it. Everything I have, which isn''t much, is polished. Does it really not matter? It won''t look like a fish out of water?

I would also need to ask, if polished vs. satin finish would help or hinder this stone. It IS shallow, and I''ve read bezeling a shallow stone can hurt what light return it does have. I wondered if the polished finish would "help" it. I have no idea, just a thought I had. I will ask about that.

I had a pendant made for DH that was a replica of a piece of crap he had, but loved (not silver, stainless, gold, or PT....just costume)...and the jeweler recommended to do a satin finish on it. We did. He loved it and wore it on a high polish chain (and you know how thick men''s chains are...THICK)...and it looked really good. Never even really noticed the pendant was satin and the chain was high polish. So I doubt it''d look odd if you had a satin pendant and high polish other items. ''sides, it''s easy to polish off if you don''t like it.

I''d ask about bezeling a shallow stone. Not sure. But if it does hinder performance you could just have it prong set above a cut-out in the metal, so the stone gets a lot of light.

Thanks for the info on DH''s piece FG. And true, I could always polish it off if I dun like.

I''ll report back when I hear something...

OMG! Why didn''t somebody tell me about this thread! I love a photoshop opportunity! lol

Aww, thank you!!

I knew you could probably do this, but I didn't want to ask you and put you on the spot, just in case you didn't wanna.

Ok, you partially nailed what I'm after with the "different shape"!!! What I had thought about was that exact shape, but, maybe have the metal border a tad wider, and as it approaches the sides (ON TOP), have it raise up slightly and rounded. Does that make sense??

Also, could you give it a regular V shaped bale, and maybe try polished WG??!

I REALLY appreciate this iwanna!

Just an update, I've gotten two estimates, $550 and 650.
14.gif
I guess with gold being up, what I think is a reasonable price for this, just isn't.
11.gif

I'm going to try one more place, and if that doesn't pan out, I'll have to shelve it for a bit.

Also, I was told this wasn't conducive to putting something on the back so that I could wear it E/W or N/S, as it's too small/light, and it would most likely cause tipping. That part doesn't really bother me though, I just wish I could get the darn price down. I mean, I have the diamond, and the chains, I just need this last part!

hmmm, not really Ellen...

Ok, could you still try and make it look polished, with the regular V bale?

oh my, do you know how hard it is to make stuff look shiny???

Oh, don''t worry about it then!! It''s not that big of a deal, really. And I didn''t mean for you to do all of them, just the "different shaped" one!

lol, if I can figure out the polished look better I will be a ps genius! hahah

I made it wider and add the bale all the same.

Ok, I was going by how you originally labled them, but I "think" you thought I meant a different one? This is the one I meant.

And yes, you''ll be in huge demand if you get the polish down!

Yes, lots of choices here. The more I look at them, I see things from a couple that would go good together. I just wish I could justify spending the money. Oh well, someday!

And I can''t wait to see your friends ring!

Ooohhhh now I see! haha... how about this?
