Our wedding is going to be autumny, with the colors being deep red, light teal and a little brown. I am designing the save the dates and the invitations on my own, because well - since I do invitations for a living it would be dumb to pay for them.

Anyway, I can''t decide between white paper and ecru. I''m totally torn, and love them both equally. They each stand out on their own and are very pretty. I''m not overly concerned about being "autumny" everywhere (my dress is diamond white after all), just what looks good.

Both versions are attached - I altered the names for privacy, so that part doesn''t look exactly as it will in the final piece.

What do you think? (attached in following replies).

Here''s the white background:

Both look wonderful in their own way like you said, but I voted for the ecru. It just catches my eye more? not sure how to explain it. :) But either way you end up going they''re great!

I voted for the white background, because, for me, the ecru background is one too many colors. With contrasting colors like teal and red, I think you are better to stick to a plain white background. It makes the colors pop more too.

I think they are both lovely, so it will be fine either way you go. I''d go with the white. Although, the ecru caught my eye more too, but I think that might just be because the posts have a white background, so the one with the white background blends into the post more.

Ditto.

They are both wonderful! But in keeping with autumy colors, I like the ecru better.

Is the ecru the closest creamy color that you could find next to white? If you wanted to, you could look around for another type of paper that wasn''t stark white, but only had a hint of cream to it. Does that make sense? That way you kinda find a happy medium.

Those are really pretty! I voted for ecru, I like the sort of vintage feel it gives the card. But it took me a while to come to that decision because I really like both!

Stephanie - that''s an excellent idea. The ecru posted is just a version of cream that I photoshopped into the background, not the actual color of any paper.

thanks, everyone, for your input!

I love the ecru, but I think it would be better if you could get a lighter colour of cream. I much prefer the cream to the white though.

The ecru shaded down 3 tones or so.

This cake would go well!

I voted ecru because the white seems a little, I don''t know, harsh or stark to me. But I love the colors overall and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that cake!

What color is your wedding dress? I would keep the background consistent with the colors that are going to be at your wedding. If you dress is white, then do the white background. If your dress is off-white, then I''d do the ecru. Cool STD''s by the way!! That cake pictures is to die for as well

That''s what I was thinking too. I think the ecru looks a little heavy (maybe not the right word). I''d probably look for a color that was in between -- more ivory or something.

I agree, kcoursolle!

tberube, based on the colors you gave and the time of year, i would guess that your linens are going to be ivory and not white? It's a stupid details, but like kcoursolle said, i think it might be a good idea to take cues from other parts of your wedding, including your dress and linens.

of course nobody is probably going to notice......but it would at least be consistent and give you a reason to choose one over the other!
