Hi guys. I want to hear your opinion on this aquamarine ring from my local jewelry. I’ve been looking mostly online for an aquamarine and honestly speaking I’m too design-challenged to put one together using vendors. I came across this one from a local jeweler and I though the ring itself is very attractive, a bit vintage a bit modern. Not sure about the stone. Before I said yes, I though I better check with the ladies here.

I don't suppose you have any photos on the hand or in more natural lighting?

Well, it depends on what you want. It’s a gorgeous ring. The color looks medium light maybe? (Still sort of hard to tell).

I can see it’s blue, so it has that going for it. It’s not watery white.

is it a good price? Does it call to you?

That is not a high quality aquamarine. I would expect it to be very inexpensive. If it were and you are happy with the color than that’s what matters. However- if you’re aiming for a top color I’d keep moving. But if you like the setting and the price is basically for the setting ok.

It's pretty on your hand! I think the color is a personal preference thing. It depends on whether or not it makes you smile.

You're absolutely correct. It is currently priced at $950 which I suspect is mostly for the 14k setting. I have not seen the stone in person but I suspect it will be a light aquamarine. Still anything near 1k is a lot of money for me.

$950 sounds like a fair price for a complete ring from a brick and mortar store. I like that it's not the checkerboard cut that I usually see with aquamarines. But do you love the color? Do you think you may end up wanting to swap out the center stone after some time?

If you’re looking for a good aqua, I would buy the stone first and then the setting. Aquas are synthesized or highly treated to where they fade in color over time. Get one from a reputable dealer, and then get a setting. The $950 is actually the cost of the setting as that Aqua us just so pale, it’s not worth very much. It’s a pretty ring, and if you love it, at least the price isn’t outrageous.

The ring looks very pretty on your hand and what good coverage! I agree most of the cost is in the setting and it looks like a solid, substantial one. If you’re not overpaying and you love it, why not? A side benefit to buying local (although don’t buy for that reason alone) is you establish a relationship with your local jeweler, who you can ask to do repair work, stone setting and other small jobs. They are less likely to overcharge you if they know you.

The setting is very pretty! I think the aqua is a bit less saturated than what I personally like, but it still is a very pretty ring. In terms of cost, I’d say excluding the aqua there’s about 450usd of materials, so depending on labour costs in your area you can work out what a “fair price” would be for the setting itself and then see if it’s worthwhile to you! Apologies if this seems really mercenary but this is basically how I end up doing the math on every piece I buy!!
