I''m new in this forum and I''m definetly a small budget bride! lol. I''ve been looking at this website. www.millybridal.com They are based in china and have an ebay shop called cinderella bridal shop. Their prices seem really good for customising it. Here is the dress that I want. Want to get your opinions on the dress. Does it look like cheap material? should I have the beads it has or get the silver tone beads or none at all? Has anyone gotten a dress from this seller? Thanks!

Just incase if the picture didn''t work.

I''m also quite short. 5''2. Will the dress look silly on me? People tell me I should go for a slimmer type dress but I love the princess type dress!

Pic attached. Are there any other shorties with ballgowns?! lol.

Hi Moonfaery, Welcome to PS!
mmmmmm, have you tried on anything that looks like that dress? Can you go to Davids or a place that will have a ton of dresses and just try everything you like (and some things you don''t like) on? I wish i had tried more things on...

In terms of ordering from China...yeah, its tempting. A friend did it. The dress was not impressive, but she totally got what she paid for. We all understand the desire to save cash, but there are lots of places to go see the dress in person first. I was at Marshalls this weekend and they had $90 grecian off-white dresses from Calvin Klein. Gorgeous. I am just concerned with you not seeing or feeling in person, or seeing another dress by the same company. But it has worked for other ladies on here. Then again, some of them have had to buy multiple gowns to find the right one.

Just go try on dresses lady!

Hi there!

I''m also 5''2" with a slight build, so I can attest that the chances are pretty good that you will look completely ridiculous in that big ballgown. I tried on a few, and I just was lost in them. Seriously. Not a good risk.

If you''re on a tight budget, there are much better and less risky options that will allow you to actually try things on and / or return them.

Options:
1.Buy a sample or consigned dress (google for stores in your area)

2. Try a lot of styles on at a salon, find out which designers look good on you in which sizes, and then buy from bridepower.com

3. Buy from a lower cost designer: Nicole Miller, Calvin Klein, etc.

4. Go to a place like Loehmann''s.

5. Check regularly on craigslist

6. WAit for the Filene''s bridal gown sale to come to your area (check on their website).

Thanks! I have tried on similar dresses but none of them had crinolines so I didn''t get the full effect. I tried on a line dresses and stuff and they were nice but it''s the ballgowns that make me grin! lol. I heard of julius bridal and I know alot of people have used them but they are quite pricey. For that amount of money I might aswell get an actual designer dress. Plus I heard it takes like 3 tries before they get it just right. lol.

I think it's pretty. There are risks that come with ordering online (internationally), however, and there's a chance you won't like it in person. *Especially* if you're on a tight budget, I'd take a look at dresses locally. That way, you can touch the fabric and see the beading in person before buying.

What about the dress do you like the most? Maybe we can help you find something similar you can try on within your budget.

Well, there was someone on here by the username robbie and she had a pretty big ballgown. She is 5''5 and I think she looked gorgeous. I''ll be wearing 2 or 3 inch shoes if that helps. lol. She was also pretty slim like me.

Ooooo - Robbie looked smashing in her gown! If I remember correctly, it was a Maggie Sottero.

I don't know if I missed it, but do you have a certain number in mind for a budget? Here at PS, these ladies are geniuses at finding just the right "stuff" at just the right price! Now that we know what type of gown you are looking for, I don't think it would be a problem to find THE dress at THE price!

Well, I''m looking for a dress similar like above. A ballgown type dress. Not tulle! lol. I wouldn''t look good in tulle. I also like some sparkles in the bodice and minimal stuff in the skirt. Just a plain big skirt. Do like the pleats as it would make me look taller. That dress is a maggie sottero regina copy. My budget is less than 500 dollars.

Not sure how that would go. lol. I''m also considering buying the dress around may or so. Wedding is in october.

Thanks.

It can be done! It can be done! How about this Amsale gown at bridepower? It''s $399. (reduced from $3Kish)

It''s a size 8, so could be altered to fit you for sure.

This Paloma Blanca is $499... but I guess alterations would push you over budget.

If you stuck a crinoline under there you'd get a ballgown-ish look though!

I second indygal, there are much better ways for someone your size to get a nice, less expensive gown.

First off, you must try on dresses and see what silhouette works best on you, to make sure it fits your torso and proportions without the ridiculous effect. My petite friend had a hard time because features hit her in the wrong places. A natural waist looked like a drop waist, cutouts in the skirt approached inappropriate places when the dress was adjusted for her height. And she was overwhelmed by ornate or puffy dresses. Not that they all looked bad per se, but they didn''t look like they did on the model in the picture.

Second, you have some fabulous options. You are probably smaller than the average sample size in bridal stores (bridal sizing 10-12, street sizes 8-10) but closer to the "model" size samples that are found at trunk shows (4-8 bridal, street size 2-6). Which means if you look for sample dresses in those smaller sizes you could get a huge discount on a really nice dress. And dresses can be both taken in and hemmed, which is to your advantage. Obviously its best to start with a dress that fits, but many dresses can be taken in up to two sizes and still look good. Talk to a seamstress before buying something, but most dresses are altered to fit!

This ebay option isn''t going anywhere. So unless you are already at crunch time, I''d make a dedicated effort to find a nice preowned/sample gown under budget, or at least try on the most similar princess/ballgown dress you can find, before resorting to China/ebay option.

Thanks guys. I still have plenty of time, so I will keep my eye out for actual designer dresses on ebay and other places. Bridal Power is an awesome site. They don''t have exactly what I''m looking for yet but I shall keep my eyes open for that site aswell. at last, if I don''t find anything by june or so, I shall go with the ebay dress. But that will be my last resort.maybe. lol. Thanks.

Well I don''t have any advice for where to find a dress, but I was with a friend who was petite (5''1) and she got a ballgown, It looked beautiful on her, like a petite princess. I think if it is tailored to your body, you will look terrific in it. Good luck!

Wow Ebree! What great choices! I love love love the first Eden gown! But that Impressions gown looks so similar to robbie''s dress that she loved with the pleating! Great finds!

And I agree with alleycat - I''m about 5''3" and I have a fairly poofy dress - with my slip on, it really looks like a ballgown - I just went to the seamstress a few weeks ago to have it altered and it looks fantastic - I really do agree that petite frames can carry ballgowns!

Awe, thanks! 2 or 3 inch heels would make you the same height as I was on my wedding day since I wore flats. Have you tried preownedweddingdresses.com? They have lots of dresses, some never even worn before, that brides are trying to sell usually at VERY reduced prices.

Here''s a Maggie ballgown that they have for less than $500:

ohhhhh Robbie - that gown is gorgeous!

Oh that dress is gorgeous robbie! Such a good price. Though I can''t afford anything till a couple of months. Wow, thanks for that website though. Gosh that dress is gorgeous...

I can''t stop looking at that dress!!!! Gr. I''m gonna stop looking at these dicount websites till I have the damn money. :p lol. Plus, that page has over 3,000 views. I bet the price has gone higher. at least, that''s what I''ll keep telling myself...

Yay! Glad I could help.

Hmm, I agree with the other concerns. I really like some of the other dresses posted more. It''s a pretty dress, and I think you could definitely wear a ball gown. However, since you are shorter I would wear the smaller skirt ball gowns if that makes sense. Like the ones Independent Gal posted.
