I''m talking about the pink one asscher that was just cut. I like it but am worried it might be too small size wise for that busy of a cut. Color looks good though. Any thoughts?

I can''t find the specs on it but I suspect it''ll be about 6mm?

I guess it depends on how big your like your gemsones, the setting you choose and the size of your fingers. It''s certainly not huge but the light colour will make it look bigger I would think.

It''s 5.14mm. I think his pictures are generally lighter than the real life color.

That''s a pretty stone. Dan''s stones goes pretty fast, and asscher''s are very popular. E-mail him, he''ll let you know the specs.

I''m not ecstatic about the color, it''s not a hot pink and has a bit of grey, but some people like that. It''s probably already sold since it''s a spinel and it''s an asscher. I have just about given up asking about his highlighted stones. They always seem to sell in 4 seconds, or they''re pre-sold.

You have to email him and tell him what you are looking for. If he has something similar coming up, he will put you on the first right on refusal list.

Yep, that one will go fast. Been looking for an asscher spinel. SIGH.

If you haven''t emailed him about the piece of rough before it gets cut, it''s likely you won''t get it. I''ve only gotten one stone (out of my 5) that was not taken before the final result was posted. And he has let me know that people are emailing him about the rough of the stuff I''ve had custom cut.

I''m thinking that spinel is going to be very small because of the depth needed for an asscher cut. But I bet that asscher cut will be stunning.

Also, it will be darker than pictured, as you know. If you can find pictures of my first gray spinel (cushion, around 1ct) I think I posted his pic and some of my own. His appeared to be a medium gray, and in mine, it looks almost black. So it''s a significant difference.

The stone is sold. I sent an inquiry and he said it was the third most popular stone he has cut to date. Apparently, there were lots of inquiries about the stone!

Actually I bought the stone! I was lucky enough to inquire first. But I couldn''t decide. So I posted for help. :) That is also how I knew the size of 5.1 mm . . . cause I had inquired. It will be darker . . . lik the hot pink in the middle and maybe more red in incandescent light. We will see. Dan did have lots of inquiries. He said he almost kept this stone for himself! :) I hope I love it. This is my first gemstone purchase via PS! :)

HB,
Congratulations, and you were so sad the other day because you thought you were only getting the leftovers!! Now you were able to do something that many have tried, but not accomplished, you actually got a very popular stone.

I was bummed yesterday when I tried to buy a stone off another site, and I missed it by 8 minutes according to the seller. . .

Please post lots and lots of pictures!!

wow, congrats! it is SO beautiful, i agree you made a great choice! any thoughts on how you will set it? :)

Congrats! Please post photos.

I wonder how that pink tourmaline will turn out.

pink tourmaline? oooh, please give links, they are becoming my favorite. :) and spinels. so fun to look at!

TL - Thanks! That made me laugh. I hope I did the right thing. What type of stone did you miss out on?

I hope this doesn''t have too much of a gray cast. I asked Dan about it going brown and he said no. He said some Tanzanian stones tend to show grey but not this one. So I hope it ok?

So it''s 1.07 carats and 5.14mm. Due to the depth of the cut it''s doesn''t face up that large. I wish that it was a bit larger. He said the hot pink flashes in the middle are close to what it looks like in person. It goes from medium hot pink in daylight to a strong hot red-pink color in incandescent light. He said it''s one of the better colors of the pinks that he had. He had a lot of inquiries about it and I had to make a fast decision. My FI really liked the cut. He hadn''t seen asscher before. So I decided to jump on it. I hope hope hope that I like it.

PLEASE suggest settings for me. I''d like a ring I think. I was thinking maybe side stones like baguettes? Nothing crazy expensive as this is my first attempt at doing something like this. I will have to look on here for pics of asscher sets to see what I might like. I am not all that familiar with how they look best.

I will post pics when I get it. In the meantime since it''s no longer on the site, here are the pics from Dan.

I can''t say because if a PS''er got it, I don''t want to make them feel bad that they got it before me. I hope a PS''er got it so we can see lots of pictures. It sold almost as soon as it went up, that''s all I can say.

Well, I hope the spinel turns out as gorgeous as Dan said it would be. Mochi is currently looking for a setting for her asscher chrysoberyl. I personally love asscher''s in square halos, but that''s just me. What is your budget around for the setting, do you want an LOGR, or something better?

Well if I set it soon, probably $500-600. Because I have that eternity band coming and not yet deducted from my account. :) I''m trying to look at all Asscher settings on here, but I''m at work. So I''m trying to look like I''m working but also look at rings! I like this type of setting I "think":

It''s from winfields''s and seems to be $370 in 14kt white gold. I just don''t know if it can be modified for an asscher center? I haven''t seen any asschers in halo''s yet. I''m open to anything! :)

What a beautiful stone! Wow... you gals are quick!!

TL - WOW! That''s pretty. Way expensive but pretty. I might have to see if I can find cheaper versions.

here is a LOGR one. not sure if it''s your style, or if it will even fit...

LOGR
Thanks karee. It''s not a bad option. I think I''d like something a bit more delicate looking. But above that - well can you set an asscher in regular prongs like that? At least it looks like those are regular prongs? I''m surprised that you would set a princess like that.

Oh yay, I was going to post in your other thread that that stone had been posted. I bet it''s more of a deep raspberry in person. I thought about emailing about it myself, but I already have an orphan asscher.

I hope you love it, though I doubt that it''s the soft pink you originally wanted, or the hot pink Dan says it is. Unless you live in LA or AZ or somewhere with strong sun most of the year, then maybe so.

Congrats!

I can''t wait to see the color. I might have it as soon as Saturday. Yeah - I''d like a soft pink. But I got suckered by the asscher cut. I don''t really want it to be hot pink, but that''s what I''m expecting. So we will see.

Hoof,
Dan himself admits that he can''t see gray in his stones. I do see some gray in this one. I''ve purchased something he called hot pink many years ago but when I received it, it wasn''t hot pink to me. So it sounds like maybe you''ll like this one since it isn''t a hot pink stone. Yes, asschers are deep cuts so even though this one might be close to 1 ct, this modified asscher spinel measures smaller than what other 1 ct spinels might typically measure.

Chrono ~

Dan did tell me that it would measure smaller than a typical 1ct. Which is fine with me. I knew the size before agreeing to purchase. He did not tell me that he can''t see gray though?! Hmm. . . that''s odd. He told me he sees gray in some of the blue and purple stones he has. Oh well. We''ll see what it looks like when I get it! :) He tells me overall it''s like the hot pink flashes in the middle of the stone. That''s pretty hot pink to me. But we''ll see. I have a created pink sapphire and I''m hoping it''s significantly a different color. *fingers crossed*

If you look at the rough, it has a brownish grey cast. However, that might just be the "skin" of the rough. It is a water worn pebble though, so it seems, but the rough of a stone will sometimes (not all the time) give you an idea of the secondary modifier(s). Worst case scenario, you return it. I guess it''s good to take a chance and see it in person.
