Joker is a regular there and has had much better luck with the rare fancy colored stone he had cut...I''m sure there''s a thread here somewhere on it.

That does sound like fun!

I took a family vacation to Montana once, and you did sort of the same thing with sapphires--except instead of being at an actual site, you bought a bag of "dirt" at a tourist store and sorted through it looking for rough sapphs. They planted a sapphire in every bag, so you were guaranteed to get at least one stone! ...but we had a TON of fun digging through little wet rocks looking for the blue ones.
