I always thought the term "Noble Red" was a term used by Asian sellers and I honestly don't know what it means. But I saw a ring by Litnon with a description of "Noble Red" spinel. http://www.litnon.com/index.php?page=viewgem&id=10682

Can someone tell me what "Noble Red" means? Thanks.

Just a marketing name to probably make it sound better than it is IRL. Looks like a pyrope garnet to me.

Thanks TL. I was wondering if there was something I was missing.

I had never heard the term before, so I did a Google search. Two different sources:

"Noble Red Spinel - The Ruby red variety of Spinel that was historically mistaken for Ruby."

and:

"The hardness and fine colors of gem quality spinel, known as Noble Spinel, set it apart as a gem material from other types of spinel."

And there are nicer pyrope garnets in the market!

A larger spinel but to dark - a top burmese spinel should have a vivid red color - "stoplight red" using a marketing term too.

This quality ( esp. the size) is very rare but a fine garnet is cubic too, RI a bit higher and hardness only a bit lower but they are much cheaper so a very good choice for jewellery. Esp. if you find a good custom cut.

That stone is neither fine colored, or ruby like.

Nobel red spinel is a marketing term used long ago and I'm surprised it is still seen today. It used to refer to a ruby-like spinel. Unfortunately, the Litnon spinel looks overly dark in the pictures and does not seem to resemble a nice ruby to me.
