Off the top of my head, I would say the abysmal way in which the government both prepared for and then responded to Hurricane Katrina. In an age where huge governmental organizations exist to plan for calamities (FEMA for hurricanes, Homeland Security for terrorism), it was dreadful to watch the pitiful response to Katrina.

Hurricanes happen. They are natural disasters. But if the US is going to pour money into an organization created to respond to such a disaster (like FEMA), the system should work efficiently. Like a Swiss clock. Evacuations should have been made easy and mandatory long before the hurricane struck. New Orleans should have been protected as the Dutch have protected their country. Everyone should have known his job and been able to perform it.

I agree with AGBF about the response to Hurricane Katrina. After seeing the video and aftermath of the tsunami in Asia last year, i dont think anyone would have thought 9 months later, similar pictures would be coming in from our own country...

Although nothing has really happened yet, the BRAC re-alignment will have a huge impact on where we live and possibly my job, but luckily both are in a positive way.
