What ring setting for a half-carat ruby? Thoughts on these CvB ones?

I have a round ruby that's about 0.6ct. I've been eyeing a couple of CvB settings, but I think the ruby may be too small for these styles. What do you all think? Do you think either would work? Which do you prefer? Any other suggestions for settings that may look good for a ruby this size?

Thanks @winnietucker!

Agree with her. The cluster design with a Ruby would look very beautiful. My sapphire is only 5.9mm so the cluster helps with finger coverage.

I recently received a (also very beautiful) Clara with a .70 diamond cushion shape center that’s a spready stone for its weight at 6.5x5.3mm. And while I think it would also look beautiful around a .60 Ruby - my gut instinct would not choose it for anything much smaller face up wise than mine - just because it is a super dainty look of a halo, proportion wise. But that’s just me/personal preference with my sausage fingers.

What’s the dimensions of your Ruby? Would love to see a picture!
If you show one on the back of your hand - I’ll try to do a to scale mock-up of both that you might find helpful?

You have beautiful rings, @Rfisher! I love your 3 stone too.

My ruby is set currently set in a double halo, I've attached a handshot, my ring finger is about a size 5. I'd have to find the paperwork to get the mm, but from a quick online reference guide, it's probably about 5.25mm.

I'm not totally set on resetting it, really just exploring the idea. It's my engagement ring that my now-husband has chosen, it's engraved, and I also don't want the melees and the metal to go to waste. I like the current halo, as I think it offsets the red very nicely, but sometimes I think, wouldn't it be nice to have a change?

He got this ring before I ever discovered PS, before ever seeing CvB or any of the other ring designers, before I was even aware of such a thing as precision cut gemstones! I don't think I even knew that there were lab created rubies, had I known that, we might've considered it. We only knew brand names like Tiffany and various online retailers like Blue Nile and James Allen. We went to the latter and am pretty sure we overpaid.

Most likely I won't reset it anytime soon. With the cost taking this apart and resetting it, I could probably get a lab created stone into a new setting for cheaper....which is what I've been doing anyway! :D

@Teddie
Your gorgeous ER looks wonderful on you!

Sometimes it is tough (I understand!) choosing what to do - revamp something or leave it as is. Would it be easier for you to find a different stone to go into your current setting, or to find a different stone for a new setting? Choices, choices :)

For real tho- I would not suggest the clara for a stone that size coming from a double halo. I’m guessing here - as I don’t know for certain - but think the overall halo face up size will be smaller to the eye than what you currently have. The shank will also be pretty thin (as thin as mine or thinner to keep in proportion) for an everyday ring like an ER. You may be super gentle on your everyday rings tho.

Obviously these are my guesses and preference’s and may not be yours. It’s certainly worth asking Caysie to see what the facts really are.

I can’t do much of a mock-up from these pics ( as pretty as they are) unfortunately I’d need something not as tilted and that I could zoom in a bit without going grainy.

Thank you, @Rfisher! I think I'll just continue to buy stones and make rings :D It's funny how my taste changes all the time. Lately I've been eyeing some cluster rings, so maybe that can be my next project.

It’s such a gorgeous ring with soooo much sentimental value that I would keep it as is. If you want something different buy a new ring for your right hand.

I'd thinking the same now :)
