What shape center stone would you place in this setting?

Not crazy about round, but I see the benefit in choosing something with soft edges to compliment/contrast the angles.

Would you pick a rectangular Radiant? A square cushion, maybe a longer Oval? Size would be 1.75-2ct for this stone.

Thank you for your time

IMHO, a step cut would sit well in this setting.

I would probably opt for an Asscher or a chubby EC myself.

DK :))

Step cut is my suggestion as well

Interesting direction recommended. Ive always liked Asschers but have been concerned about the fire not being enough...let me give that some more thought.

A well cut Asscher will burn your retinas with fire!
I agree with the others, a step cut all the way.

Agree, those who appreciate step cuts love their big flashes!

DK :))

Seconding a step cut. I think it would look cohesive with the modern sleek ring shank and take it to the next level. Would love to see a mock up with an asscher!

Being new to step cuts, would I need to stay in the VS range on clarity? Concerned that any little flaw would be noticeable. Are well cut SC stones be forgiving like a brilliant cut Cushion, in terms of clarity and color?
Would really like going that direction if doable without spending a ton more

Personally, I would stay within the G/H colour range and VS clarity with the best cut available - this is my own "mind clean" specification.

My own 1.19ct EC is an E VS1, and I can just about see the inclusion under 20x magnification!

If I were to get another EC, I would be prepared to go down in colour to G/H range and opt for a bigger stone.

I would love to continue leveraging your collective knowledge on the Asscher, if I may. Trying to understand what pricing to expect on a well done Asscher. Your thoughts on this stone please . Table size as well as the other 5c (cost).
This Asscher
Or this one, maybe

Our step cut experts here would need to see actual pictures, video and Aset images of these stones before they can weigh in with opinions. You can’t assess on numbers alone.

I love the setting, OP! I love step cuts so that will always have my vote.

When I look at the ring I can also see a pear especially with the angles on this ring that may work nicely. Or perhaps even a marquis. Or perhaps an old cushion with square edges!

I love that setting
I'd want to to all be about sharp angles like @Niel 's suggestion

my first thought was an Ascher so I think I'd pick a step cut, no matter the shape.

thank you everyone for your time. I am doing more research on the
Asscher being a possibilit. The trillisn’t isn’t speaking to me yet, but I will keep it as a option.

Amateur hour here but the triangular or tapered look is really pretty.

I must say that your placement of the stone really does work well with the V in the ring setting. I did not see that aspect before your mark up.
Thank you!

I'd go with an ascher cut and if possible I'd replace the round border stones with either calibre or French cuts.

Why not pear?
