What ''work'' did he have to do exactly that is anywhere comparable to what the mother had and will have to do?

Oh, right, i''m sorry. the woman does everything. i guess from now on you can all go and have babies on your own then, become asexual and raise them yourself too. Good luck
Hmmmmm never said the woman does everything

BUT the only ''work'' the man has to do before the baby is born is fertilize the seed...and I''m guessing there aren''t too many men that would consider that work.

Why did you buy an engagement ring for your fiancee? It''s not like she did anything for it, right? OR were you thinking-

''thanks for letting me use your vagina, here''s a diamond?''

LOL! He loves himself so probably.

My guess is that he really didn''t buy his FI a diamond because he doesn''t have one becuase he''s a troll.

Yes, whatever became of that 3.2c vvs2 diamond???

You know, I am so ashamed that I used such vulgar language, but I couldn't think of any other way to get my point across.
I am sorry if I offended anyone!

I am with the other poster that something really expensive should be from her husband/father of the child.

what the hell? it's both of their children. why would he buy his wife something expensive?

'hey, good work pushing the fetus out of your vagina, here's a diamond'?

he had to do work too you know
and he has to be a father, that's hard work
When you push a bowling ball out of your man parts, then come back and tell us it's not a big deal.

Oh, and carry the bowling ball in your stomach for 9 months first.

It's not about expecting something for doing it....who would have a kid just to get a freaking piece of jewelry? It's about acknowledging your wife and the birth of your child. And it's a nice thing to do for the woman you love, who just went through hell birthing your child. It's a token of LOVE, not of reward.

For the birth of our boys, my DH got me a dozen roses with a blue carnation in each arrangement. He''s not at all romantic, and this was something so unexpected that it made me cry. I kept a rose and the carnation from each. Flowers are nice too.

Woo, where is that baby, and how are she and the mommy doing?

I got flowers, and a charm bracelet. But him giving me my children was the best gift of all. Woooo where are ya?? How is your daughter and grandaughter?? I want to hear all about it!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO We have a beautiful granddaughter. Her name is Allexah Sue (middle name after mine....WOOOOOO). She weighed 71bs 15oz. and is 21 inches long. She was induced so it took a while. Just returned tonight to get somemore clothes. Spending that first night at home with them like my mom did :)

Anyway, thank you all soooooooooooooooooooo much for all of the fabulous ideas. I love the booties :) It was funny reading all of the responses. Like I said before, I received so special gift from my hubby but would have been thrilled if he''d have thought of it. I don''t think we as mom''s expect anything after having a baby but wow what a wonderful surprise if we are thought of during such a wonderful time.

I think I will go for the maternity ring or the booties..... You all are so fun...

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

Wow....hearing your news reminds me of the ONE downside of having only sons...I never got to go stay with and help the new parents and grandchild the first days home from the hospital....I''m so envious!

My mom came up and stayed with us a few days after each of our sons were born...it''s such a special time...have fun!!!

While you are at it, how ''bout a little trinket for the new one? A little locket maybe?

What a beautiful baby - congrats Grammy Woo!!

Well congrats for the sweet baby. People give and receive gifts for many reasons and sentiments. In my case I might add I received the prettiest ring I own it''s a lovely pear shaped opal with the most remarkable setting. I was given this ring by my boyfriend for the birth of my first child. I didn''t have a wedding ring or ering but I was in love and had a very special child and I will always have this keepsake.
Reason number one for a maturnity gift.
So the mother may always have something to treasure for her little one long after the man that gave it to her leaves or is left.

Jeez...well I just had a baby and it''s hard work. You''ve probably heard, they don''t call it labor for nothing! Anyway whats wrong with getting her something sparkley to commemorate the event? I didn''t get anything but I think it sounds like a really sweet idea.

woooo, totally agree :) Watching her go thru labor made me realize just how hard it is :)
