My boyfriend is out Christmas shopping for family members today and just asked what he should get his cousin, an 11 year old girl (in the $50-$100 range). I haven''t been around kids in ages, and I haven''t been one for ages, so I have no idea how to respond. Any suggestions that are relatively generic or universally liked?

The Dream Life plug-in games are fun for my daughter.

If the boy likes to read, I personally would get him a nice series or trilogy of books. But then, I always like to get books for kids, as I think it's important to encourage them to read in this computerized age.

Girls are very individualized at that age; if either you or your boyfriend know a little bit about the girl (whether she''s more academic or sporty, introvert or extrovert), the following site is really good for sparking good ideas:

Enter young girl, click for 10-12... anyhow, hope this helps!

It's just been so busy at work, I've been too mentally exhausted to start.

To contribute to this thread - we have an 11 yr old neice, who loves:
- scrapbooking or anything creative using her hands
- Lululemon Athletic wear
- She's into purses (we bought her a puma purse that she adores)
- Headbands (particularly lululemon)
ETA:
-Clothes (fashion)
-Kareoke
-Costumes

I'll keep thinking...

We got my FIs 12 year old Niece a sterling silver charm bracelet and 2 charms. Now we can add to it for other gift-giving occasions. The total came out to $65 (from a maul store... I know I could have done better online, but this was last-minute as well)...

When I was about 11, I got my first piece of "real" jewelry--my birthstone (aquamarine) in a lovely little pendant with a tiny little diamond next to it. I totally thought I was the bee''s knees with that baby! The other girls at school were jealous.
