What type of ties did/will your men wear?

Do your ties hang low, or are they tied up in a bow?

My FI asked me earlier today if I "would mind" if he wore a bow tie for our wedding. I think he asked because he''s noticed how predominant long ties are in all the wedding magazines, tux ads, etc, while he prefers the more traditional look. So, out of curiosity, what did/will the men in your bridal party wear with their tuxes?

I think both look great but my DH preferred the long tie so that''s what they wore. I think this is one of the areas where the groom gets all the decision making power.

In the UK a long tie or an ascot is the traditional choice.

Bow ties seem to be a US and continental european fashion. They also don't 'go' with morning suit.

Here bow ties are only worn with Dinner Jackets for evening events.

My FI will be wearing a tie in either gold or burnt orange shade.

I don''t really know yet.

When we got engaged, fiance told me he wants to look "like James Bond" - which to him means black tuxedo, white shirt, and black bow tie. I''m concered, however, that this may make him look the same as the DJ, waiters, etc.

I''m not really a big fan of the colored ties/vests that match the bridesmaids'' dresses look that is popular now. Our colors are red and bright green and I can''t see either of those not looking cheesy on him.

I just saw Bill Rancic''s wedding on tv and he was wearing a white (?ivory) bow tie. Looked pretty classy, I thought. So I might try to talk him into that. I was thinking of having the groomsmen and fathers in long ties of the same color as fiance chooses, but we''ll see - it''ll be their choice.

FI and I both think we''d like him in a white tie and vest to make him stand out/match me, so that means it''d be a white bow tie. The groomsmen will have either black ties/vests or dark blue to match the BMs. Not sure on that point, yet.

I''m not sure yet... I think he may want to wear a bow tie, but I''m concerned that it would look too formal for our morning wedding, especially since he''ll be wearing a white tux. With my cute dress that has barely any train, I don''t want to look underdressed next to him, ya know?

I''m not fussed on matchy matchy either - so I''ve asked the groomsmen to wear a grey waistcoat and a tie of their own choice.

Most of our male relatives and parent''s friends will all wear morning suits as well, so I would like FI to wear a tie that coordinates with our wedding colours. He will also have a double flower buttonhole, whereas the others will be single flowers.

FI said he wants a bow tie, because he thinks long ties look too casual for a tux..."and what''s the point of getting a tux then? It just looks like a black business suit, like you''re going to the bank afterwards..."

Haha. Men are so hilariously honest.
