Neither, I'd go for the largest and best performing oval I could find. But of the two, the Octavia by far.

great comparison Kenny....

yummy.... octavia that is... :naughty:

Kenny.. :wavey:
Very interesting. i'll ask the Moderator to move this thread to RT.

How many facets on an Octavia?

57

3 rows of facets on the crown.
3 rows on the pavilion.
One row on the girdle.

Each row has 8 sides.
Plus the table facet.

(7x8) + 1 = 57

57 facets if you don't count the culet, which is pointed not flat.
Sometimes I think I see a pointed culet counted in the facet count, which makes no sense to me.
Perhaps their argument is, if you look close enough ,using a scanning electron microscope, the point would not be a perfect point that tapers to one atom of carbon.

Not that an SEM can see an atom.
I was just trying to make a … point. :wink2:

Another vote for neither ... I tend to prefer my facets bigger, so I would probably gravitate to a (square) AVC if I was choosing among the GOG ideals.

But if it was between the two? Probably the H&A, because although I am awed by the design of the tension setting and appreciate the craft that goes into them immensely, they don't look right on me, and I'd inevitably go for a setting that wouldn't make the most of the Octavia. So I might as well enjoy my face-up view ....

Thanks, Kenny... :wavey:
your Octavia is a 1.37 ct?.. what size is your ring? can you please post a hand shot?

My Octavia is 1.51 ct G VS2 per AGS, and my SO's is 1.34 ct H VS2 per GIA.

The first two pics are my ring in Cobalt Chrome, size 8.5.
It is Boonerings style called Sidegrooves.
I requested the tops of the 4 'prongs' be angled 45 degrees instead of straight, which IMO better compliments the Octavia because that's where the windmills end and touch the ring.
All of the outside is brushed finish, and all of the inside is polished finish.

Here's the pair.
My SO's hand/ring is on the right and is size 10.

You can't really tell in these two pics but his is titanium and has darkened considerably over a few years.
I'll take a new pic that illustrates the color difference of the two.

Beautiful rings Kenny.

Thanks. :wavey:

DF, IIRC you want over 2 ct.
For size comparison here is a 2 1/4 ct asscher next to a 1.34 ct Octavia.

KarlK says they face up about the same per carat.

Gracias.

The size 8.5 is 6.12mm
The size 10.5 is 6.22mm.

They don't taper so they are the same width at the diamond as the opposite side, facing your palm.

BTW we just crossed posted.
Scroll up.

So the rings aren't much wider than the stones?

Actually, the rings are more narrow than the Octavias.
Here's a close up showing how much the diamond extends beyond the ring.

With many tension settings you can decide how much, if at all, the diamond extends beyond the metal.
You can also have the metal extend beyond the diamond for extra protection.
I assume with an asscher in this design you have no flexibility since the metal must contact the diamond at the windmills.

In the above pic of my ring notice the 45 degree angle of the metal where it touches the diamond's windmills.
That was a requested modification to the regular design.
Below is a pic I snipped from Boonerings' website.
Notice the 'prongs' are square.

I also requested the bottom of the groove be flat, not curved.

The below pic shows a few-year-old titanium ring on the left and my new Cobalt Chrome ring on the right.
Notice how dark the titanium is.
It wasn't that dark when new.
Perhaps I could just buff up the Titanium … we'll see.

I strongly prefer shape of the profile of my platinum Gelin Abaci ring on the right to the Boonering with the Octavia.
If you do too, ask Bruce if he can curve your ring convex instead of concave.

Oh, all the lovely eye candy.

Thanx for the bling ****, Kenny!

You're welcome.

I realize I've committed a photo-threadjack …
But, DF has questions about the unusual ring and the rock I happen to own and pics can be worth a thousand words.

ETA, Oh, and of course I AM the attention whore.

Oh, you thilly thailor.
I'll bet you say that to ALL the boys. :naughty:

At 2 AM I took the top pic above but decided to not post it and spent more time to take and post the bottom pic, even though my SO was yelling :angryfire: at me to come to bed.

I rejected the top one because while both the focus and the focus depth of the Octavia is quite good, the 'prongs' of the ring were not in focus, and the purpose of the pic was to describe the ring, not the rock.

Since the camera was closer to the diamond on the top pic look at the awesome kozibe effect captured at the outer edge facets, top, bottom, left and right. :lickout:

I think seeing a diamond's culet reflected as far as possible from the culet is really cool.

This is an amazing picture. IMO, it shows off the stone VERY well, and how precise and gorgeous the faceting is, while also still meeting your original objective of showing your prong modification.

Your photography skills never cease to amaze me.Thanks for sharing!

Thanks manderz.

Wife was at work during the robbery, but they got away with her 2.17ct E-ring, b/c back then she didn't wear her ring to work.
