I need to send my ring back to Quest to have the stone replaced that fell out. I know UPS is out, but what should I do sending it USPS??? I am so scared to send it but want to send it now before all the holiday madness. How much should I insure it for etc....

Anyone???

I sent mine to Leon Mege last week - but he hasn't received it yet, so the jury is still out on the shipping method I used. I sent it US Registered mail, Insured, Return Receipt. (Despite what's advertised there really is no priority or express service for registered mail. It won't get there any faster.)
As far as the insurance is concerned - I assume you haven't had it appraised?
Did GOG give you an appraisal for your asscher? If they did use that value, and add the cost of quests services and maybe a little more. It's tough if it's lost, USPS will ask you to prove it's value so I'd stay close to the actual cost of Quest's work + stone.

Scintillating...

Use USPS Registered Mail with insurance. You can do priority mail registered, which is advertised as two to three business days.

I would insure it for whatever amount it would cost to replace it if it is lost, damaged, etc. But you will have to have documentation of that number if it were to be lost, etc. So just make sure you insure it for a realistic amount; it is not worth it to insure it for a lot of $$$ and then not be able to back up that number.

Thanks Scintillating and Rascal. I won''t over due it on the amount I guess. But am so scared it will get lost. Ughhh.

Kaleigh, I''m sorry to read that a stone fell out of your ring. I think your safest bet is to register and insure the ring with the U S post office. Good luck.

Try not to worry too much Kaleigh! I''ve shipped stuff USPS, Registered, Insured for years and years, and never had any problems....knock wood!

Lisa!

It`s time for your baby to go back

. Why did you rule out UPS? Is it because of the lost shipment that Whitefoot had? I sent my ring UPS a lot of times and didn`t have any problems at all, but I`m intrested to know if there was another reason? Leon was the one that reccommended UPS to us. In any case, I hope everything goes smoothly with your ring.

I suggest Registered Mail.

Yes it was because of Whitefoot and it''s a lot more money to go UPS. The guy at the post office told me a man wanted to send his Rolex back to a jeweler and to send it by UPS it cost him $250!! I went USPS priority registered insured for $21. Whitefoot''s story scared me silly.

You can send it usps registered insured EXPRESS (Not Priority.)

Priority is not available with registered, but express is.

I''ve done it.

It got there in 3 days.

I''m knocking on wood for you!

oh K, you''ll be fine. i''ve sent several things usps registered mail. the longest it took was 10 days to get to richard sherwood but my ring only took 2 days to get to quest. your ring will make it just fine:)

I agree that it will get there fine. They say USPS is the safest way to send jewelry. Let us know when it arrives!

Thanks mrssalvo and Demelza you guys are making me feel better. I will let you know when it arrives.

Priority is not available with registered
Yes it is. I do it every time I register in fact.

USPS registered insured. I''ve done it plenty of times and it always got there safely. What happened with the ring? Did I miss a thread somewhere?

Hi Milly,
No I didn''t start a thread on it, just mentioned it here and there. A small stone fell out at the bottom of the shank. I did have my local guy replace it but it fell out again. Should be back in no time!!

Yup, Priority sure is available with registered.

Okay, whew, a little relieved now.

Would this continue to be a problem in the future? How did it fall out? Do you wear the ring often, i.e. everyday? What did Quest say? If this continues to happen, wouldn''t it be a huge hassle to send it back everytime? Sorry, so many questions, but I would like to own a setting like that one day, so I need to know the facts for reference. Hee

Definitely registered USPS. It requires a signature every time it changes hands, and is stored in a locked facility.
Hope your ring is back to you quickly!

Milly,
I was really careful with this ring. I only wore it when I was out and about. When I was home it was in it''s box. I didn''t hit it or knock it at all. I tend to be very gentle with my rings so I have no clue what happend but have a feeling that part of the setting needs some work. HTH Lisa

Maybe it is different in California.

They have told me all 4 times I tried that registered priority is not possible, but registered Express it.

Oh well.

That''s weird??

Oh well.

my post office guy says you can pay for priority or express but it all goes into the same bag and moves at the same pace. you pay more for faster but it doesn''t really guarentee anything

.

Here''s what it says on USPS''s website:

"You can use Registered Mail with:

First-Class Mail® - Letters, envelopes, and small packages weighing 13 ounces or less.
Priority Mail® - Cost effective delivery in an average of 2-3 days.

Yep you can do Priority Registered but someone else told me (Alj?) that it all went into the same bag too and it didn''t matter so you shouldn''t overpay for Priority or Express. The longer it takes has to do with where it''s going. We are in CA so if we are sending to EC it will take forever...it took like 8 days to get to GOG once.

Last time I sent via UPS, it just made me feel better and I could track it and see it was on schedule. I shipped it at 6pm at the facility and they got it at 10am TX time. So less time for worrying. Now next time? Who knows! I''m paranoid regardless!

You know I was just thinking this evening as I was washing dishes.

It was priority, not express.

I'm 49 now and I think my memory just isn't what it used to be already.
Sorry guys
Just slap me next time.

Oh Kenny don''t be silly.
