What's the max amount of money you'd spend on an impulse jewelry purchase?

Most impulse buys are 2K or less for me but I have spent up to 6K on a whim. Not really a whim but an unplanned purchase. I haven't regretted the more expensive impulse buys. It's the $500 and less ones that I usually up regretting.

Most of purchases are impulse purchases ha ha.
Im constantly browsing and if I spy “a find” I’m tempted.
I would say my limit is $7,000. Ive spent more but now I’m retired.
My Art Deco diamond bracelet, Alexandrite bracelet and the Almond blossom ring are probably my most impulse purchases.
Currently I’m besotted with Jade. I know so little about it so I just buy pretty.
For “unquantifiable purchases” my limit is $200.

Damn I feel so low budget in comparison!

My big impulses are usually something like a Diptyque candle. My latest was velvet mauve curtains ($600). Worth it, little things can change the whole mood of a room.

Ok those curtains sound AMAZING.

Also tell me- are those candles worth it?

So I’m a huge sucker for the Diptyque brand. I love the label, the branding, the limited edition ceramic jars. I will say, the only scents in the line I find really extraordinary and unique are Feu de Bois and 34. The others I’ve tried are cozy and long lasting but you could scratch the same fragrance itch with a less expensive candle. Still, they create a vibe in your space, and that’s why I keep coming back!

Beautiful!! Thanks for the info!

Count me in the $7000 club. Splurged on a Rolex for husband's anniversary/birthday/christmas gift. He has casually mentioned wanting one a couple times over the last year but I found one that was made the year he was born and added a nice leather strap to give it the "passed down from my dad" look since he's not much of a metal strap guy. For myself, probably more like 5k haha.

This is an interesting question. I have made a couple of impulse purchases in the past couple of years, and I am downright THRILLED with them.

One may not fit your category because it was a piece that was on my “one day, if the opportunity arises” wishlist. I did not expect to be offered an onyx/pave 5 motif at a VCA boutique this summer, but when I was, I pounced. I adore the bracelet and have zero regrets.

Another fairly recent impulse purchase was in the preloved forum. I love it so much it has its own thread. It’s my HPD 3 carat eternity band. It was a true impulse buy. I already had an eternity band that was bigger, I truly had no need for it, and yet. I pounced. I love CBI diamonds and HPD lux melee, and it was a chance to have a beautiful band. I wear it ALL the time and have zero regrets.

So for me, an impulse buy comes down to knowing myself and my collection, and where something fits. It only happens at all if I have the cash and if my husband is also on board. Even if they’re impulse buys I usually end up allocating them for gifts for various occasions (the onyx/pave became an anniversary present). And most of all, I know myself well enough to know I cannot pass up the opportunity because I will wear the fool out of it. That’s when an impulse buy is worth it for me.

Oh wait. I guess I just made another one. I just bought @diamondseeker2006 ’s WG hammered 5 motif bracelet (will receive this weekend). It falls along the same lines of the above reasoning for me. It was on my “one day, if the opportunity arises,” list. Cash was available, husband agreed. And it will be allocated as Christmas gift from hubby.

I actually have regret over one impulse purchase I did NOT make. A few years ago, my Rolex AD offered me a two tone white face Daytona. And I turned it down. WHY OH WHY. Well, I can tell you why. It wasn’t on my long term wishlist and I wasn’t sure how I felt about two tone and even though I could have done it I wasn’t sure…..

By the time I was sure, it was long gone and I have never seen another one. Now I am certain I will never see another one, at least not at retail. Sigh.

My largest impulse buy was the VCA lapis and pave diamond bracelet from Paris. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for a holy grail piece, and there was no time to waste in making a decision. On the other hand, I knew it was a rare and highly desirable piece, and I could easily sell it if I decided not to keep it. I eventually decided not to expand into a yg VCA Alhambra collection and felt I wouldn't wear it enough to justify keeping it. So @yssie is now the owner of this beautiful piece which makes me happy since she has a truly amazing jewelry collection!

I've done this a couple of other times where I had an instant to decide on a piece that I loved (but didn't necessarily need) such as two special order VCA bracelets. One is now with Yssie and one is going to @Tonks this weekend! I am happy to have been the liaison to get a few special pieces to their rightful homes!

I bolded the parts of your comment that I really relate to!

Even when I buy something impulsively I do think over where/when I would wear it. I don’t go through with the purchase if I can’t think of x no. of occasions/outfits where it would work. I also tend to allocate jewelry purchases to occasions or gifts if I can. But true “impulsive” purchases for me are few and far between. I tend to visit a piece for a while before I buy it.

I have a “the one that got away” that I regret though. My jeweler was helping a client sell a gorgeous emerald and diamond ring of theirs. The price was an absolute steal because they wanted to offload it. I could’ve swung it, but it would’ve been a very significant expense for me at the time, so I thought I’d take time to think about it. When I went back it had sold, and recreating it at that price just isn’t going to happen.

Usually if it’s an impulse buy for me it’s less expensive, definitely less than 1k and more likely a few hundred dollars.

I impulsively buy things fairly often but usually no more than $500 to -$1,000. I have a bling budget and I try very hard to stick to it. Besides, I very often change my mind about said purchase and end up selling it down the line…which usually keeps me from being spend happy. However, all my budget rules flew right out the window when someone posted a 5ct, unheated, purple sapphire, in a gorgeous Leon Mege setting, on LT. There was no logical thought happening. I was overruled by that little demonic voice, deep in my soul, that required that this purple gumdrop of deliciousness be mine. I HAD TO HAVE IT!! So, in this one instance, I impulsively spent over $6k (the exact number eludes me). Just so you all know, I have no regrets!

I'm just over here with my $5 Target candles nbd :cry2: but I bought a $36 cloche matchholder from anthropologie to light them.

Actually, Target has some shockingly good soy and wood wick candles this year for $15! It sort of had me rethinking my snobbery a bit

Haha, I guess I paid $10 for a couple of these. I wanted to try them because when I visited a friend in Orlando last summer his house smelled amazing. When I asked him what it was he said oh just some cedarwood or sandalwood candle or diffuser (can’t remember which). These are coconut soy, not that I know anything about candles or what that means. It just seemed like a good way to try to find a new home scent without investing in something I might end up disliking. Now my store is sold out of them, because of course I found one I love. Story of my life…lol

That’s so pretty!!!

And big!

If you’re going to be impulsive, be like this!

Keeping in mind your finances and your wish list/goals.

What's a "wish list"? :mrgreen2:

I have wanted one of almost everything at one time or another. At this point, most things we buy are somewhere between wish list and impulse -- but not quite at either extreme. I know myself well enough by now to know that any eye-catching super-cool anything -- jewelry, car, furniture, art -- needs a cooling-off period. The jewelry purchases that we have enjoyed the most have been "opportunity-based" (ooh, would you look at that) and not the culmination of a long, methodical search. Any wish list is excessively limited by my imagination. :cool2:

Yes there is definitely a specific item wish list, and a general wish list. Especially with antiques too it's more of a "I didn't even know I wanted that until I saw it" situation.
