What's your experience with Swala Gem Traders

Hi, everyone. I'm considering a purchase from Swala Gem Traders. I know they're on the preferred list, but I wanted to hear your actual experiences.

I'm a little hesitant because of the following: there's only one picture (which sort of looks like a glamour shot) of each stone, there's no certification (I understand I can have this done post-purchase, but it'd be nice to have something included), and I can't find anything about their return policy online. I contacted them via their website but I haven't received a response.

Any stories would be greatly appreciated whether you address the things I've listed above or not. Thanks so much.

I have made 2 purchases from Swala but these were many years ago, probably close to 5 years ago. They are open to additional picture requests (I always ask for a hand shot) and he will answer all your questions patiently. I ask about colour shifting in sub-optimal light conditions. I did not require a lab report for the spinel or garnet because it was unnecessary at that time (no simulants and untreated).

I used to live in Tanzania so I've been to both their retail stores there but not purchased or dealt with them online. Their stones were nice quality. The stock didn't seem nearly as expansive as it was online and I didn't see a spessartite that caught my eye. They have a very good reputation.

Chrono: Thank you for sharing your story. Although your purchases were 5 years ago that's still not that long ago. And it's good to know they're open to requests for more pictures.

Kelpie: Thank you for sharing. I wish I could visit them in person. The closest I'll come is my father-in-law who is taking a trip to Africa again next year. But I can't wait that long!

That didn't take too long. ha He responded!

He apologized for the late reply; he's on summer break. He won't be able to take additional photos for a couple weeks (due to his location not being where the stone is), so I'll have to wait.

I wonder if I could convince DH to let me buy it ...
