Where are the gem jobs

I was wondering if anybody could help me. I have been looking for jobs in the precious gem industry for months. Outside of being a jeweler I have not seen any openings. I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks for reading!
 
There are always openings in sales , thats a start. Thats were I started

at the bottom. Then if you can not find work like myself you open a business

Depending were you live and location is were the jobs are.
 
If you do not have family or close friends in the business, you will have to start at the bottom as Iceman says. So much of the diamond trade depends on trust and reputation, and it takes time to build a name and connections for yourself. But if you are willing to work hard, apply yourself, and learn how things work, you can go a long way.
 
I am strongly urge anyone who should try to search for "that" employment - in the meantime, the vehicles like here and auctions like Ebay can also let you have some grasp of the industry.

I am totally for anyone going independent and to get into the main trade as we all do, working double shift, studying and working as a university faculty and speculating during summer hours and gradually found ourselves that "spot" to open up our own business.

But in today's climate - I am suggesting that if you can do online work - yes, online and you can give value added input to any jewelry store - for those who are not so online or web savvy jewelers, there are ample opportunities .

The online business we have now is not selling on Ebay or auction houses - but to be able to forward our existing customers pictures of their "repair" or "remake" and send them brief infos on the arrival of gems, new cuts .. and that kind of email communication with existing customers will be most helpful to all jewelers - it is a kind of a pasiive way to engage your cliente...and often- an email is far less intrusive than a phone call (specially to the client 's work place). We have been in buisness for over 27 years (range from retail, wholesale, mining and global distribution of gemstones and jewelry ) but at this moment - directly working with consumers is not bad - we have noticed that our clientel base in their use of email had incrased multi-fold. This year , almost 85% of the new customers are all email ready and that had just widen our business base.

Beyond being a gemologist, you need to add to the acumen of business economics and yes "survival" skills. And many jewelers today are still "limboing" between the website and emails. And it is not feasible to have any average jewelers to have an IT man on the team or website developer - At this juncture, not only a gemologist, speically when a gemologist who has the skill in computers - you can even help them to develop direct link to sellers in Thailand, in Brazil and from anywhere. The vertical integration process todays is a reality - No one has to be fear to circumvent anyone.. Guess what ? as we speak - DeBeers is now selling retail in England - How about that ?

A up to date gemologist will also have to add the "flavor" of business and economics to give value to be just a gemologist!!!!

From what I hear, it is very difficult to get into the diamond business if you don't have connections, unless of course you decided to start your own business, like everyone else says. If you don't have connections you really have to start from the bottom and work your way up. I'm working from the bottom as well. However, I sort of got a jumpstart since my father works in the diamond industry.
