Well, I just got engaged on Friday (ahhhh!), so let the wedding planning begin. I just feel overwhelmed, already! Where do I start, what are the important things to know. I know budget, date, and guests are probably a good place to start, but other than that I am clueless. Any suggestions, tips, or websites (I''m not really a fan of the knot.com)

Thanks!

After budget and date we went for venue. Not much fun getting married if you don''t have any place for it! Congratulations!

Same here! I liked the Gathering Guide, and Here Comes the Guide... but the latter is just for California. Even though the knot guides are kind of limiting, the local boards are a good jumping off point.

Congratulations!

OK, here is what my ''Modern Bride'' Wedding Countdown says you should do between 12 and 9 months before the wedding. Obviously tailor this to your personal situation! But just to give you an idea what needs to be done on the sooner side.

Announce your engagement
Arrange for parents to meet
Decide on a date
Discuss the budget with all the possible contributor
Pick the ceremony site
Meet with the officiant
Do a rough guest list to get a sense of numbers
Visit reception sites and reserve one
Start sniffing around at gowns.

Remember that your venue needs to be coordinated with your headcount! You don''t want a looming hall for 75 people, and you don''t want a quaint little cottage for 200! AND, remember that your dress should match the tone of your venue, so don''t pick anything until you''ve booked the venue.

And just remember that the MOST important thing is to breeeeeeathe, relax, enjoy.
