hey guys, I''m thinking of buying an engagement ring online. but the only thing thats bothering me where would i be able to take my ring to get it serviced. i.e. inspection/repairs etc.

which local jewelers are reputable? are independant jewelers better or chain jewelers (i.e. zales, kay etc.)?

fast replies are greatly appreciated as i plan on purchasing a ring from blue nile tomorrow!

Anywhere really. There''s a local jeweller where I''ve bought a necklace that has a bench if I need any work done. Most people seem to have some jewellery not bought online and those local jewellers are typically happy to help you.

I would stick to more of a family place than a chain.

Go to the most high-end jeweler you can find (and that means don''t even think about taking it to one of those chains!!!). A high end jeweler generally will do high quality work and certainly be trustworthy because they have a reputation to maintain. You might want to purchase something from them before you just go in and ask for them to clean and check your ring. Might improve the service.

Baloney,

I''m not fond of any of the options you''re looking at...and suggest you''ll need to modify your requirements to get a well cut stone.

Also, here''s more on the topic of this thread...
