Hello, I am recently engaged and was wondering if anyone knew where to buy loose sapphires? I am having a hard time moving about this forum since I am new and cannot find any of the vendors or recommended sellers.

Thank you.

Welcome to Coloured Stones, Jsmith8

Here''s one to get you started. It''s a vendor thread (it''s pinned at the top of the coloured stones section. There''s another one up there that''s just eyecandy!)

I can only tell you my story...

I went to local jewelers and looked at sapphires for my engagement ring. I wanted a darker blue than you...and was shown stones from $1500-3500. I was looking for untreated/unheated stones, though. After some viewing of threads here, I decided I wanted a color-change sapphire and was advised to contact several vendors here who can custom cut a stone for you. Don''t be afraid to do this...they are reputable people and they will have material that isn''t on their website...rough stones, or some which can be recut. Since you are looking for something slightly lighter than the "ideal blue" stone, (I like the color too, by the way), you will get a better price. My e-ring stone came from Jeff White.

I''ve also happily purchased from Dana at Mastercutgems and from Dan Stair at customgemstones.com. Both are excellent to work with and very nice people, as is Jeff. I couldn''t be happier with my results going this route, though it was a bit scary at first!
