FI and I are currently hunting for our photographer, and of the ones we''ve liked so far these are the ones that are still available for our date (one of them is a maybe, she should be able to tell us soon). We''ve been looking at so many, though, that they''re all starting to run together. We want to narrow it down and meet with the top 2-3 to get a feel for their personalities. I''m sorry the list is so long, but if you have the patience to look, who do you guys like the best, and why?

Do you live in Mich? If so, so do I! My FI and I are meeting with the woman that owns The Shooting Gallery the week after Thanksgiving and I have read so many great things about her and I love her work that I have seen on her website and from the pics that the girls on the knot post. I also think that her pricing is really reasonable. I love her style and her use of color, light, everything! I am really hoping to book her for our wedding and engagement photos! The other photographers look good too, they all seem to have a similar style. I think that it will depend on how you feel after meeting with them.

Hahahaha! Thanks Rachie! Actually, the Shooting Gallery is the one that is a maybe for availability on our date, and the more I look at her stuff, the more I hope she''ll be free! I feel kind of guilty, though, cuz that means I''m hoping that another poor couple has to change their date! It seems the bride who has our date booked called the very day I contacted the photographer to ask what could be done if they have to change their date. The groom is in the service, so that makes me feel REALLY guilty when I think about the possibilities for why they would HAVE to change their date. Anyway, she thinks she will hear within a week one way or another.

Hi there,
I have to run off to work :-(

so will come back and take a look at the sites later, but after reading your post I wanted to throw a couple thoughts out there- you seem to already have it narrowed down to a handful- is there room in your schedule to meet with the ones you have listed here, rather than narrowing this list down further?

The reason I ask is that we too searched endlessly for photographers, and ended up meeting with 6 in person. After meeting with them all and looking at their work in person (where we were able to see full albums of one event, not just gallery shots) we ended up going with the photogs who, if we had based only on the website, were not at the top of our list.
While yes, a pro photog should have a great website, it''s important to keep in mind that they most likely put only their best shots into their web portfolios. Also, one amazing photographer we met with had hardly any work on his website, as he was getting it revamped. It was important to us to see a full proof book from one wedding, and a finished album from one wedding, and make sure we were happy with the way they seemed to capture the day.

It is a huge time commitment to meet with so many, but I was glad that we did- we were able to rule out 2 of our top 6 just based on the meetings.

Rachie, I forgot to ask - have you and your FI found any others that you really liked that aren''t on my list?

Rachie, you should also check out Anne Ruthmann. She doesn''t live in MI, but she has family up here and travels this way frequently to do weddings. She is AMAZING. We would have booked her, no hesitation, except she wasn''t available for our date.

We like her so much, actually, that we''re treating ourselves to engagement photos with her as a mutual anniversary/Christmas/pick-a-holiday gift, even if we get them with whoever ends up being our wedding photographer.

have you seen www.modernphotoglyphs.com? i think his work is pretty awesome :)

Thanks for the link! I really like her work! I am definitely going to email her to get some info. Thanks again!
