Which sapphire do you prefer? Narrowed it down to two.

This is a follow-up from a previous post. I've narrowed it down to two, although I feel like I'm partial to the yellow (put it on hold) as it's the one I keep thinking about in the back of my mind. Yellow doesn't seem to get as much love on these boards though, so I suppose that's the only thing that makes me a little tentative. Seems like some have described yellows as looking dull or not having that much brilliance compared to other colors. Granted, I have seen neither in real life.

I know I would be extremely happy with either though. I've also thought about letting my boyfriend make the final decision and being surprised. Regardless of the stone, I think I'd let the setting be a surprise.

As a board, which do you guys like better? They are both about the same price, though the green is a carat larger. Both are plenty large for me and they both seem cut very well. I realize I will be the one wearing it everyday, and they are both very different, but I appreciate your opinions.

* 2.01 Intense Yellow Nigerian Sapphire (Unheated)
* $3,000
* 6.9 x 5.1 mm

Ooops meant to post this in the colored stones forum! I'll move it over there. Regardless, reply if you feel so inclined.

Not a colored stone expert but like the yellow one. It seems more transparent and I love the color of it. Good luck to you!

I agree. The yellow one seems to have more sparkle to me. Both are really pretty though!

Both are beautiful but I'm partial to yellow sapphires. I wear one almost daily as my rhr and people mistake it for a yellow diamond quite a bit so it must sparkle. Good luck.

I like the yellow too...

So very different !

That blue-green is my color. I know what the odds are to find it in anything ...

Then, a daisy ring is such a happy thing to look at all the time. However, it would be easier to do one later, than to hunt down the perfect deep blue-green sapphire. [already dreaming of yellow diamonds next / around it]

Incredible that you would line up two stones so much on my own taste ! Good luck !

I don't love yellow sapphire's in yellow gold. That would be my o My concern with the yellow. Otherwise it's lovely

Both are really lovely and would be beautiful in a ring!

A couple questions:

-what is your skin tone/hair and eye color?
-what colors do you wear most often?
-have you decided on metal color for the setting?

The answers to those questions might help guide you.

I like them both, but I think I favor the yellow for an engagement ring. I strongly suggest giving 2 or three favorite setting choices for your bf to choose from. That is a HUGE decision and something you have to live with for a very long time. There's no way I'd leave that open ended. I would set a yellow sapphire in platinum or white gold, personally.

I'm a dark blonde with green eyes. I'm fair skinned but often wear yellow gold. I'd most likely do yellow gold even with the yellow stone but am open to white too.

I DEFINTIELY would give him suggestions. I'd be scared to see what he'd come up with if he went in blind!

As a jeweler, I may not specifically comment on your stone choices, but I will say that if more color had the type of cutting that these gems have and the wonderful colors, that color would be a LOT more popular than it is.

I see so many yucky colors at high prices that it is no wonder to me that color sells so poorly.

I love how precise his cutting looks. After only a small amount of time on Pricescope I'm amazed at how much I've learned about the quality of cuts. So many beautiful stones are ruined by sloppy cutting.

I am surprised that more people don't go for colored stones for engagement rings. But I guess diamonds are just so pushed and marketed. Not that diamonds aren't beautiful too!

You can't go wrong with either one. The yellow is definitely bright, but I like the teal green as well. Personally, I favor the teal green more because it goes more with what I usually wear, but I'm not the one wearing it!

I guess the other thing to think about is the type of setting you're thinking about the setting the stone. Maybe do a white gold band but a yellow gold head if you go with the yellow sapphire?

I'm normally a big fan of blue. BUT the cutting on the yellow stone is so wonderful and really captures my attention. I think it has more sparkle than the blue, if that's an issue for you.
